Kernow
England have got their opponents. Russia, Slovakia and Wales. The fixtures are as follows: 11 June - Wales v Slovakia | England v Russia 15 June - Russia v Slovakia 16 June - England v Wales 20 June - Russia v Wales 20 June - Slovakia v England England play in Marseille, Lens and Saint Etienne. In a format where there's room for the four best 3rd teams to qualify, we really should progress here.

froggg
Poor Republic of Ireland, that'll be some achievement if the qualify from that, suspect England and Wales will qualify from group B, France and Switzerland from A, Germany and Poland from C, Spain and Croatia from D, Belgium and Italy from E, Portugal and Iceland from F. You heard it here first.

Kamikaze
hold your horses boys, don't four of the 3rd placed sides also qualify? I backed Switzerland @100/1 a few months ago and plenty of shrewdies like Austria+Iceland

MuespachRam
England v Wales in Lens will be a great day out. Went there for France 98 and it was awesome, actually went to Marseille and St Etienne both great great places to visit as a football fan. (Marseille is a dump but there are loads of places around there that are fantastic) really the draw couldn't have been much kinder to us....it's coming home.... Bris Vegas
I don't like the format of the four best third-placed teams going through. The final group games are set up to be a lull, with plenty of teams 'doing favours' as they'll probably know what they need to qualify. I understand the idea of making the tournement bigger, an extra round of matches will be played. But it'll cause complications and I guarantee one or two teams will end up complaining of unsportsmanlike behaviour when two teams play out a 0-0 knowing a draw is needed to quality. Of the groups, Russia are nice opponents. Wales for the UK factor too. Slovakia, didn't even know they qualified! A quarter-final penalty exit is on the cards! Weren't Slovakia almost through with 100% record in qualifying? Seem to remember it being mentioned a couple of rounds before the end but confess I didn't pay attention after that. They could be dark horses tho. I still remember euro 88. Qualified in style (Inc a 4-0 away drubbing of yugoslavia) then drew roi in the group who were in their first ever finals. We did appallingly badly.

Do you remember Italia 90, which had the same system? England's group went into the final group games with the distinct possibility that everyone could end up with exactly the same record. Mercifully Oooh Mark Wright scored what turned out to be the only winning goal of the group. They still had to decide who finished 2nd and 3rd by drawing lots. Kernow
The benefit of being in the first few groups is that you play one of the 3rd placed sides if you win your group. Wales, Slovakia & Russia is a group we should realistically win. Russia or Wales to finish second. We also can't meet Germany until the final, getting that far would be an achievement on its own. If we win our group, its a third placed side from groups A, C or D. From A you'd expect it to be Romania, if they were of the best placed 3rd place sides. Group C probably Ukraine, and from Group D it could be any of Croatia, Turkey or Czech to finish 3rd, can't call that one. Either way its a favourable draw. If we finish runners of the group we get runners up of Group F, likely to be Austria or Portugal, so it gets a bit harder. If we're poor and finish 3rd as a 'best placed' third side, chances are it'll be Spain. So if we finish top we could/should make the quarters at least, I'd be happy with that. Sith Happens
Does seem crazy only 8 out of 24 teams will leave at the group stage - but means more football on TV so im for it.

JoetheRam
I think it's a great draw considering it means we've got tickets for England V Wales and England V Russia along with Belgium V Italy and the opening match from the lottery that was the UEFA ballot. Not even a big international football fan, but I can't wait now.
