I would say Portugal had the easiest group of all, 2 games less to play as well.

Friendlies, is it better to go into tournaments full of confidence remaining unbeaten, or do you go in after getting potentially smashed by 3 of the top countries thinking what's the point?

England are in the middle of a rebuilding process ourselves, a lot of inexperienced players coming into the squad, would have preferred something in the middle, a tough game but not where we could get smashed. Maybe a Russia, Portugal kinda game.

Thought the friendly in spring against Italy showed what a useful workout these matches can be. Agree its difficult to go too much on results. haven't we done reasonably ok against germany and spain in recent times in friendlies?
