Been in SRG's #DMLB since day uno.

He's class, proper class. I accept he's only shown glimpses and at times his lack of urgency/aggression has been frustrating. But there's a really, really good player there.

Just needs to fit. Whoever told him he's a striker should be shot. Twice. Playing on the wing works but he's too sort of nice. Like Hughes. He's too safe to be tasked with that role. He wants to play in close quarters intricate little exchanges.

Getting in the team and getting a run of games is going to be hard for him in a central position. But if he does I think he'll win over some critics. Maybe even @rammieib!! :D

He's had an unusual career path so far. He's actually pretty inexperienced for his age.

yeah. And Hughes and Hendrick are experienced Champ players now. Played at the top, middle and bottom.

Jeff has like 150+ games at Championship level. What is he? Like 22 or something?

Dawkins has no consistent level. His CV is quite dissapointing really. Hope he finds a place in the team.

It's easy to forget when we've had Hendrick and Hughes come through at a young age and play so many games, in the centre of the pitch no less, that that's not normal. I wonder if some of the flak Dawkins gets is as a result of that? A bit of a double whammy as he's not as experienced as most players of his age are and he's playing alongside young teammates who have more experience than most players of their age have got.

I agree. Hope Clement finds the right role for him and sticks with him

I honestly don't think that role in professional football exists. His best position based on his attributes would appear to be advanced central midfielder. The problem is that while he is perfectly suited for such a role for many reasons, the big factor for playing in such a position (which is playmaker) is not what Dawkins is capable of routinely being. What's more is for almost all teams and players, the formation centers around the group and not the individual. Take Hughes as an example. How many games have we seen him deployed in his best position.

Dawkins is a nomad. Possesses the qualities of multiple positions but never enough in one to hold down and contribute to the team in that single position.

Being able to play with his other foot better and to have more of a finish would do Dawkins a world of good. He has not improved in these areas while with us. A failure for multiple people in my view. We have a new head coach. Someone with a big reputation. Who has already changed things up. Hopefully he and the others can see the problem areas and where Dawkins lacks and focus on improving them. But for someone who turns 28 in December, that may not be possible. Old dog, new tricks.

I think the diamond could be the making of him. Playing at the tip.

He's possibly back up for Ince in that position, but i think he could thrive there.

Before anyone starts, I know, I know...but for 15 minutes there vs Burton I thought he made a good case for the shirt.

Technique. Shows for it, controls it, makes a yard under pressure, finds a white shirt. If there's no role for that in the modern game I'll stand *******. Someone doing effectively the Martin job but 10 yards deeper could free Darren Bent to play as he needs to for instance.
