Jose Mourinho has accused Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez of "destroying the best team in Europe" when the Spaniard replaced him at Inter Milan in 2010.

The Chelsea boss spoke after Benitez's wife joked her husband was "tidying up" another Mourinho "mess" at Real.

As well as Real, Benitez also managed Chelsea - although he did not directly replace Mourinho at either club.

"The lady is a bit confused," Mourinho, 52, said after Chelsea's International Champions Cup win over Barcelona.

"Her husband went to Chelsea to replace Roberto Di Matteo and he went to Real Madrid and replaced Carlo Ancelotti.

"The only club where her husband replaced me was at Inter Milan, where in six months he destroyed the best team in Europe at the time."

Not content with setting the record straight, Mourinho then made a jibe about Benitez's physical shape.

He said that if Montserrat Seara, Benitez's wife, focused on taking care "of her husband's diet" then "she will not have any time to talk about me".

Mourinho is a footballing genius. He makes arrogance look like a virtue. He is a very bright guy and probably too bright for all the rest. I would certainly not take him on ion public as I would expect him to be ten points clear after fifteen comments! He is the only man who 'knows' that he will win the Premiership next year. if perchance, he sees a weakness, he will soon correct it. Even Ferguson said that Mourinho would dominate the Premiership for a few years more.

Mourinho is still very bitter because Liverpool knocked Chelsea out of the champions league. It seems as if Mourinho fears Benitez just like he fears Guardiola so he deliberately starts these verbal battles to disrupt their teams.

Mourinho fears Benitez? You do come out with some funny things

Mourinho is a classless arrogant hypocritical ****, but he was only responding to untrue comments.

Mourinho was the one who started this bitter feud. Yes I genuinely believe that Mourinho fears Benitez because Benitez is tactically very clever and Mourinho knows this. Notice how Mourinho only starts these feuds with some of the top managers around, Guardiola,Benitez,Simeone ,Wenger , Pellegrini etc. Benitez is VERY underrated in England. You can't not be a top manager when you have been around some of the biggest clubs in europe, Valencia,Liverpool,Inter,Napoli,Real. I feel sorry for him because he is made out to be a laughing stock in England when he is not. The way that he completely out tacticed Ferguson in 08/09 when Liverpool won 4-1 at old trafford was brilliant.

In some aspects Benitez is tidying up Mourinho's mess such as having to get rid of Casillas, the man Mourinho completely ruined

As @RLACML said, Benitez' wife has criticized Jose leaving teams in a mess which Rafa fixes. He replaced Di Matteo who won the FA cup and Champions League and he replaced Ancelotti who won the Copa Del Rey, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. He replaced Mourinho at Inter when they were arguably one of the greatest teams in Europe.

Jose is just responding to a stupid comment from Mrs Benitez, Rafa has inherited good teams and they weren't negatively effected by Jose.

Jose is not scared imo, he will face Rafa when the time comes but he will no doubt out play Rafa, parking the bus against Real will not be hard to wind up Rafa some more.

Out tacticed Ferguson eh? Bugger me

For someone who claims to hate what the Premier League is about, you sure seem to lap it up. 'Bitter feud'? What a load of nonsense.

He plays mind games with fellow top managers, everyone does it. That isn't what this is though. This is someone talking rubbish about him, and him correcting them with a few little digs.

Who says that I hate the premier league? I think that the premier league is the most entertaining league in the world.

Which top managers play mind games with other managers? Mourinho seems to be the only one

I'm pretty sure you've said that you hate the Sky hype surrounding it. 'Bitter feud' is a line right out of Sky's playbook.

They all do it, all the time. Basically any comment they make about other teams or managers is designed to get a reaction. Some of them just aren't very good at it. Rafa isn't very good at it.

Name some current top managers that make such comments then.

Wenger, Pellegrini, Van Gaal, Pochettino. They all do. Rodgers even does it on his own players.

I don't particularly follow football outside of England/Scotland but I'm sure they do it abroad as well. They would be stupid not to.

Didn't Benitez get a piece of paper out and reel off a list of stuff about Sir Alex in a press conference once, who I think basically just laughed at him

Mourinho's a genuis, and in this case I think he had every right to respond to such stupid comments. Although he did go a little too far, once again.

The guy should stick to football. He has such a good CV, he has all the facts in-front of him regarding Inter Milan, Chelsea etc. Was there any need to bring Benetiz's physical appearance into it? Or Wenger's personality beforehand. Or all that stuff about AVB? Why be personal, it's football that's all.

His comments on Pep Guardiola when Pep never even mentions him are stupid. What's the point? The rivalry is non-existent at present so there is no need to make snide comments every now and again.

I think his unwillingness to really rival SAF was disappointing too. Who wouldn't love to see them two waged in a war of words? Instead, he rather smartly sucked up to him in order to protect his own image.

Mourinho is a great addition to the Premier League, and some of his comments are brilliant. But only when he talks about football and those necessary to the point.

Re. Ronaldo vs Hazard. I actually think he has a point in some ways. Surely the collective is more important that the individual? Ronaldo clearly bad a better season individually, but not winning anything in such a good team might suggest he wasn't exactly the best team player.
