Fifa won't follow suit because they already rake in billions in microtransactions, whilst still mugging you for a full price game.

On the face of it, I was quite interested in this going f2p but then I realised they've basically taken a 2 year break to upscale a mobile engine so cross play can go from PS5 all the way through to Apple App Store versions of the game... that sounds awful.

So PES really is dead

Unless there's some weird surprise in there, I guess they managed cross play with Fortnite from mobile, so it must be possible. Just yeah, hold your breath.

Doubt I’ll even bother downloading it tbh, be playing teams in clown skins that some kid paid a fiver for, on a pitch that looks like an ice rink and giant marshmallow for a football

Think they'll charge for additional teams, leagues and offline modes, as well as whatever naff version of ultimate team they go for.

I notice they haven’t said eFootball 2022, it’s just eFootball so I’m guessing there will be minimal updates to the base game, just tweaks to players stats

Yeah, i imagine they'll plan to keep the base game for a few years before an overhaul, and just keep the content rolling until then - basically like fifa do, but without being underhand about it.

My lad wants to swop out his PS5 for a gaming PC.

What sort of budget should he be looking at to get roughly equivalent performance.

The one he's shown me is £1700, is that just a waste of money?

Seems a hell of a lot to me, seeing as he'll use it for nothing but games.

For a gaming PC you're easily looking at £1k - £3k just for the machine.  On top of that you will need a monitor (I spent £1k on mine), keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.  If you're into gaming I love my PS5, but its not a patch on my PC.

Example budget build here (£1k)

Example high end here (£2K)

EDIT:

If he knows what he wants I can recommend https://www.overclockers.co.uk/

I used to build my own, but I'm getting lazy now ? At Overclockers you can specific your parts and they will build it, deliver it and give you a warranty - which you don't really get if you build your own.

Subnautica is the pick of the bunch imo, well worth a play.

Dunno if Horizon Zero Dawn is still free, but thats a stunning game if you've not played it yet.

Just want to say… thanks mate ?

horizon is in the top 3 games I’ve ever played and managed to get it for free thanks to your heads up. Currently on 75 hours and over 90% completed.

can’t wait for the second one.

Thanks that's really useful.

Personally I'd like him to save the money for a flat deposit, but he's holding out for us to die first, it seems.

Looking forwards to that myself, think its been delayed until 2022 though - although tbh I'd rather every game I'd ever bought had been delayed until it was ready to launch.  Cyberpunk 2077 I'm looking at you!

Haha, my lad is going to Uni in Sept and we've been putting a bit away for this potential eventuality for years.  He promptly spent £3k of it on a gaming laptop knowing full well we won't see him go hungry etc...

Personally I wouldn't spend £1k on a gaming PC, you'd probably need to update it in a year to play the latest games at decent frame rates.  £1700 seems about right for a decent rig tbh - assuming he knows his stuff, but as with most things, there is a lot of crap out there and you can easily spend £1700 on a £1k rig ?

There are plenty of online websites and forums to gen up on the latest tech and places like Overclockers also do prebuilt systems if you don't fancy building your own which are pretty good value and built with gamers in mind (that require higher spec and therefore costlier parts)

Personally I always spend a bit extra on ultra quiet components as well.  There is nothing worse than playing a brand new game at high frame rates only to have the drone of your PC fans whirring away in the background.

Thanks @maxjam, this is the spec he's sent me.

I've no idea if this is good or not, and neither does he tbh.

He's got the monitor already from his PS5, can I be cheeky and ask your thoughts?

For starters I'd ignore the free Microsoft Office - it will bug you to buy it.  Open Office is just as good and free.  Ignore the antivirus as well, you can get those free online as well.  Malwarebtyes is excellent for example.  Other than windows, everything else is just bloatware imo.

Also will he be using a wired internet connection?  If so he won't need to spend money on the wireless card.  Wired connections are far better for online gaming.  And what spec is his monitor?  What fps is he hoping to achieve and will he be gaming in 4k?

Wired through a powerline connection.

As for the rest, I haven't a scooby!

He bought the monitor specially for the PS5, so the frame rate should stack up, I assume.

If its wired, he can save £19 on the wireless card.  Most motherboards, inc the one he has chosen has a wired connection built in.

Frame rate makes a difference.  30fps doesn't really cut it anymore, you need to be aiming for 60fps.  Most modern (cheapish) monitors go to 120fps and 240fps.  Unless you're spending a fortune 4k gaming is limited to 60fps.  The screen size also makes a difference - the bigger the screen the more pixels the graphics card has to move around.  TBH the graphics card he has chosen is okay for everything other than 4k gaming although if he could squeeze a few more £ I'd go for a better brand.

Without researching all the parts its difficult to comment on the system.  I'll knock up a similar one on overclockers and compare.

Just had a very quick look and found this PC in the online version of PC Gamer magazine (hopefully the pic will scale up enough to make it readable)

The difference between a mid range PC and high end PC, for them at least, is approx £3k ?  If we work from the mid range PC (£1400) and assuming  your lad doesn't need a monitor I would swap the free cooler out for a (silent) NZXT Kraken x63 water cooler and either swap out the RAM, Motherboard or Processor for a better brand/higher spec.  If he can push the boat a little higher than £1700 he could do more than one and would get a very good system.

If he doesn't need a keyboard, Mouse and headphones there is an extra £230 savings there as well he could put towards the better components I mentioned.

I've jus been given an xbox one and now spend most of my life playing COD warzone or starwars bf2.....hope my kids are alright

Battlefront 2 has come a long way since it’s release. The first year or 2 it was slated as a poorly made game, like a lot of bigger games that are rushed out. Loot box controversy also turned many off.

Then, EA made some changes and it seems to have found a wider audience over the past few years. Credit where it’s due, EA put some time into it to try and make the game better.
