ALBENTOSA

How many minutes has had actually on the pitch ?

how many times has he played a full game

how many times has he been on the pitch in a settled side in reasonable form

how many minutes has he been on the pitch fully match fit

I suggest that it isn't very many and any judgments we have ( my own positive one included ) are pretty meaningless.                      I reserve judgement until he has had 3 full games preferably consecutive ones.

at the same time though how many minutes do you give a player that clearly can't cut it? We stuck with Macarell when we should have played Eustace and that was to our detriment. I'm open to giving Albentosa another chance, but at the same time we mustn't be afraid of dropping him if things don't turn out.

There's a lot more to being good than not making mistakes.

His distribution might not be a mistake but it was abysmal.

I won't say he won't have a great season. I won't say he hasn't got excuses. I won't call condemn his career based on a handful of games.

But his distribution when he played was totally rubbish. You need to be a good defender if you're going to keep giving the opposition possession or passing to teammates so slowly that it looks as if the ball is made from concrete and then we struggle as a team to get any sort of tempo.

That was just the way it was. We can talk about why it was hard for him. But he didn't play well. Can't hide behind the no mistakes card. I can get 100% pass completion by passing to Lee Grant. See what I mean. Not messing up isn't the same as playing well.

Sith Happens

Players take time to settle, especially central defenders, they need to develop partnerships and understand their team mates, its not often that you get an Igor who just comes in and bosses it fron the start.

In fairness to Albentosa, even when he did get a look in, it was hardly in a settled line up, there was so much chopping and changing at the back, no wonder we leaked goals, and no wonder he couldnt get settled.

I also think this chopping and changing was a huge factor in Grants form towards the end of the season. I know some was forced due to injury but most of it was just panic stations.

I just hope we get a settled back four (five with whomever is in goal) and stick to it where we can. If that means Keogh, Buxton, whomever is benched then so be it.

I don't see how you can say he "clearly can't cut it" it isn't clear at all because has had very few minutes on the pitch. He has started very few games, when he has played it has been in a side that was off form and missing key players and he has had niggling injuries .. It's like saying you don't rate a particular car when all you have done is take it to the corner shop on a rainy day and didn't bother adjusting the seat or getting in to 3rd gear and it was due a service anyway.

So right right right. He's not good enough for Derby according to some fans, yet we are loaning him to a team that are better than we are. Okay then guys.

It's not quite as simple as that, is it? Perhaps he doesn't want to stay.
