He is the ideal player to match Thorne in that holding midfield role. Assuming Thorne is fit though, for an extended period (however sceptical/hopeful we are) to spend that would suggest he isn't coming to be back up.

If this happens we'd more than likely see two CDMs. We wouldn't leave out Thorne if fit and we couldn't leave out Bridcutt either.

We'd have Thorne, Bridcutt, Hughes, Baird, Bryson, Hendrick and possibly Dawks for the CDM/CM positions, which is far too many. At least one, possibly 2 to go IMO.

Now this one is interesting, and does make it seem like we will be utilising a number of different formations (as suggested). Between him, Thorne, Baird and Hanson, we'd have 4 players all capable at defensive midfield. Couple that with 3 players who can play as an out and out striker, four if you count Sammon, and another potentially 2-3 wingers on top of that, we won't be short of options going into the new season, that's for sure. The real question is whether we'll see out, and how many, before the season starts.

Baird was signed as the answer to right back, suspect dawks might go unless he finds his feet in pre season, that leaves 5 player for 2/3 midfield positions.

That would suggest a distinctly different style then. If Baird was first choice RB we'd have a limited attack but stronger defence. May allow more freedom for Ince without as much need to track back too. Could still see one of Hughes, Hend & Brys going as none will be happy as back up. And if Baird is RB, along with Christie, then Pearce, Keogh, Alb & Buxton + Rawson for CB then Shotton is certainly surplus to requirements.
