Spanish Football

Is booming at the moment isn't it?

Sevilla winning the Europa League for the second successive season, Barcelona big favourites to win the Champions League.

Sevilla winning means five Spanish teams in the CL next season. Given Valencia's new-found riches and quality squad, the Spaniards could really dominate the competition next season.

You wouldn't bet against all five making the knockout stages, especially as they can't face eachother in the group stage and the new seedings making things a little more interesting.

If they don't face each other on the way, I'd say three will make it. At leasrt four will get to the last 16, I'd put money on that.

Other than Real, Barca, Atletico, Juve, Bayern, Chelsea and perhaps Arsenal - Sevilla and Valencia are at a level as good as good as any other that will be in the tournament.

Arsenal won't get past the last 16 under Wenger from now on.He is too stubborn

Actually Valencia are arguably the most improved team in Europe. Took four points of Real Madrid this season, was desperately unlucky to lose to Barca both times.

Peter Lim has transformed them into a European heavyweight again. Exciting times at the Mestalla.

Nuno is a very talented coach as well. Love his enthusiam.

I'd be interested in what odds you're offering, I can almost feel it in my piss that Chelsea will get to the semi, maybe the final.

Chelsea won't get that far unless they get a world class player like Bale to complement Hazard. Chelsea over rely on Hazard and teams will just do what PSG did and foul him to stop the flow of the game. European teams are tactically more astute

there isn't a manager in the game more astute than Mourinho.

Ancelotti accomplished more in one season at Real than Mou did in three.

For such a great tactician, it's quietly swept under the carpet that he couldn't get the best out of such a good group of players at RM. His tactical switch of playing Ramos at RB and not 1v1 vs Lewandowski in the 4-1 defeat in Dortmund was horrifically naive.

don't be so ignorant Bris. There've been better teams at Madrid than the one Mourinho had that have failed a lot worst than his.

I would hope that one day you will bring yourself to criticise the bad things in Spain as and when it deserves it, and one thing that does deserve masses of criticism is the political interference at Real Madrid, which may have provided "Galacticos" over the years, but in reality has held the team back more than progressed it. As it happens, I like Ancelotti, but if you're going to suggest Mourinho is NOT brilliant based on his performance in Spain, then you're clearly ignorant to everything but the delusion you have over Spanish football.

Never said he wasn't brilliant. You've just assumed that Chelsea are nailed on for a CL semi-final place (at least) because there isn't a more astute manager out there.

You might be right, he's brilliant. But he isn't immune to errors and I'd say he has a tougher job at Chelsea than elsewhere because it's arguably harder for him to attract the players needed to compete at such a level.

I think Mourinho will always prioritise the league over the CL, and that could also work against him as it did on a number of occasions for SAF at Manchester United.

Also, I do criticise things in Spain. I think the decisions Real Madrid have made in recent years have been utterly ridiculous, and sacking Ancelotti is awful after what he's achieved over the two years.
