A bit meaningless though,in the 3rd tier of English football they are a massive club.

OK, the best win average by any manager ever to have managed Sheffield United in the third tier.

I wonder if Clough is one of those that will finish in the middle third regardless of which division! Might be worth Sunderland giving him a job!

I know it may seem ridiculous, but I could see him avoiding relegation in the Premier League. He may not be a winner, but he's no loser either.

Clough's just not the man to get your promoted. It's kind of strange, but some managers just specialise in specific roles. Grayson gets teams up from League One, Allardyce keeps teams up in the PL...

Clough consolidates teams. That's his forte. If he went to someone like Rotherham, he'd consolidate them as a midtable Championship team for years.

As Mostyn points out, it might be worth giving him that sort of job if that's your target and arguably your limit.

Mostyn points out a lot,a busy fella ,F-A cup semi final ,record 10 league games win run.League cup.semi final against spurs.finish in playoffs,a two semi final legs.two and a half million for Maguire a estimated 5 million

Most players brought to the club freebies and the 3 young scots for nominal fees. The only money spent was on Brayford..

one and a half million for a top championship player,.So him having millions to spend is rubbish..,.As usual he introduced

academy players to the first team/ and brought young exiting strikers in Che adams-Mark mcnulty.

So its a shame after one full season and the progress made with the club,A change has been called for.

Wow forgot the new pitch being laid the new astra turf, wonder where the money came from,

14 seasons out of the last 20 in div 1,-------7 managers in 8 years,Enjoy the summer nigel.

18 months ago if a choice between rush and clough in the interest of derby county give me clough every time.

Maclaren gone,both failed

cannot agree with you last two sentences. Clough leaving is the best thing to happen to Derby in the last 20 years.

Can't agree with your last sentence Mostyn me owd, surely giving Davies the bullet ranks above Nigel's departure, it does for me anyway, the odious little twot.

no. I'd have rather kept Davies than employed Jewell! But my comment is because Derby was a dying club, we were going to end up like Middlesbrough, empty stadium and no enjoyment over the last 10 years.

The day gate ejaculated all over the Nationals is the day Jewell should have been removed, despite the fact that it had nothing to do with Derby.

"Unwanted behaviour, which is harmful to club financially or/and reputationally, is strictly forbidden and can lead to penalties, claims and cancellation of contract." Not straight from the contract but translation from the language I can speak as poorly as English. Surely this sort of statement should read in every contract in professional sports?

Not sure if public sex with teenagers is strong enough event for you Brits tho...

You should speak to my two Blades mates. Clearly you know more about their club than they do.

I do keep in touch cloughs  progress, and while not knowing about their club i think i know more about Nigel than them

Mostyn  is in a different corner to me,he knew it was time for the next level,I waited, for it.. still am.

out of respect for fellow fans,i joined in the debate at the time,Enjoyed the development of the team, and waited for the next level, with nothing to say.i never, spoke a bad word about Maclaren, thats what coaches do,another word is fall guy.

I must say i thought the new international coaching set up worked a treat..and yes Rush still here on the pay rise from last year, I am glad Maclaren got one makes his pay out better

I hope Ramblur is watching the finances for us.Moving on to a even higher level now.

Mostyn has that much to say he must be payed by someone to scramble the forum..

I respect what Nigel clough did for our club and will always defend him.

I do not trust rush, thats me,,So far still in the championship, and spending after 2 years in charge.,

1 Manager 1 Head coach, ,looking forward to the pub forums he attends.

Respect to fellow fans and hope im wrong and we make the premiership next season.

Three months ago, I took my first driving test at 39 and failed. I didn’t do an awful lot wrong. My only real mistake was driving too slow. ‘Take your time,’ I told myself. ‘If you don’t do anything hasty, you won’t do anything wrong.’ After 14 lessons, the last six or seven of which had been a breeze, I was reasonably confident I was up to the task.

But it didn’t quite work out that way. My philosophy was flawed. I felt prepared for anything the unpredictable Spanish roads could throw my way but I hadn’t considered the prospect I could drive too slow, and I wasn’t prepared for an impatient examiner who, once agitated, would treat my every imperfection as a black mark, finding fault wherever necessary to reach the outcome she considered right.

My charge sheet at the end of the test was harsh, a list of trivialities that had virtually no bearing on anyone in my vicinity. I wasn’t a danger to other road users but, once those minor discrepancies had been totted up, I essentially failed on the basis that I might have been an inconvenience to anyone in a hurry. I hadn’t played by the (unwritten) rules.

I was reminded of this yesterday by Nigel Clough’s dismissal at Sheffield United. I like Clough as a manager. I admire his old-fashioned values and the very fact that he still manages to impose them in the modern game. But ultimately those values have been his downfall at Bramall Lane, just as they were his undoing in his previous job at Derby.

The trouble is, as much as I’d like Clough to succeed somewhere, he is totally out of sync with today’s society. He is all about discipline, graft and conformity. He wants a squad of 18 players rooted in the same values, all competing on an equal footing for 11 shirts. The problem is, players with that mindset nowadays tend to have limited ability. By definition, they never think outside the box and break the mould.

And so, without the odd maverick or high-maintenance player, without any flash of inspiration or unpredictability, you end up with a team that, through sheer hard work, consistently improves, but only by the smallest of increments.

Look at Clough’s track record. He’s been in management for 18 seasons now and his teams have improved on their previous campaign in all but two of them, yet in all that time he only has half a promotion and two play-off campaigns on his CV. His approach demands time and patience but everybody knows those commodities are virtually non-existent nowadays.

The sad irony is, Clough was probably an ideal fit for Sheffield United – a masculine, working class club if ever there was one – but it’s also a club that has been stuck in League One for four years now and you can’t realistically expect them to twiddle their thumbs while the rest of the world is in a rush and your direct rivals appear to be moving faster.

Think this geezer hits the nail on the head.

mentioned 3 times in your last two posts, I'm honoured. IN answer to your first post, I was complimentary to Nigel, saying he could perhaps do a job in the Premier League as he isn't a loser. In this post (I've quoted), your first mention of me, yes, I knew Nigel wasn't going to break into that top 3rd of the league, but your second comment just confuses me. Would you care to elaborate on what the hell you're babbling on about? It is a members forum, and by no means am I the most prolific poster on here. If you have an issue with me 'spamming' the board or whatever, complain to @Daveo
