Guest
I met the guy who was writing the book that has been serialised in recent newspapers. He told me his theories and that he was going to get a book published, thought that would be the last I ever heard of it!Tragic accident that sticks in the memory along with the Hillsborough disaster. MuespachRam
Crazy how much non publicity the book has been given, especially when you compare it to Hillsbrough.I didnt know anything about ther even being a possibility that it was done on purpose until recently. Remember going to the first game back there after the fire.....i think Gregory scored the winner from a penalty.?
Stive Pesley
I'd not read any of the stuff about the book, but just checked out these two articles on it and it's chillinghttp://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/apr/15/bradford-fire-martin-fletcher-stafford-heginbothamhttp://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/apr/15/bradford-fire-stafford-heginbotham-martin-fletcherEssentially the owner had a history of mysterious fires in his businesses whenever they got into trouble, and he'd just discovered that it would cost £2m to rebuild the wooden stand to the required safety standards as a result of their promotion. And he was brokeAll circumstantantial and the owner is long dead, but unbelievable that they never picked any of this up and questioned it as part of the official inquiry... MuespachRam
yep, its incredible.....totally shocking, and this disaster, unlike the other more "high profile" ones, was genuinely 100% nothing to do with any of the fans at all, absolutley no blame on them. truly awful

But if it was why do it when there is a game on? Im sure had it been done on purpose there would have been no intent for people to die.Im sure had he it been intentional it would have been done when the stand was empty. Unless the reason done when full was because it was impossible to point the finger at any one person.I dont know, the world loves conspiracy theories. I'd say so - if the stand had been empty I guess it would have almost certainly been treated as arson. At which point the police might have made more of a fist of investigating those who had a vested interest in the stand burning down. I know what you're saying about conspiracy theories, but I admire the author for sticking to the facts and letting the reader draw their own conclusions. It does seem unthinkable that someone could do that though - but then we said that about the Philpotts

It does seem unthinkable that someone could do that though - but then we said that about the Philpotts true, there are some pretty horrible people in this world. I just cant beleive there wouldnt have been some sort of investigation which would have found this out. It does make you wonder, with Hillsborough there is enquiry after enquiry, and rightly so, people involved and their relatives deserve to know the truth. But with Bradford, on the face of it, it seems someone says it was a discarded cigarette and its 'ok that must be it'.
MrsRam
Heard it on the minibus radio on the way back from Newport, we stopped at a pub for a drink and the landlord wouldn't serve us - "nowt but trouble, you football fans........".
davenportram
If it had happened now with the internet and stuff it would have raised more suspicion if only because of conspiracy theorists.
eddie
I think it was the Daily Star a couple of days later who made up a story under the headline "I saw fan throw a firework". That was the day I decided that I would never take anything printed in the paper at face value again - using 56 deaths purely and simply as an opportunity to lick Thatchler's starfish, kick football fans in general and sell newspapers. It was an easy assumption for them to make, of course - the same day, Leeds fans murdered a 14 year old boy at Birmingham and a fortnight later, Liverpool fans went 38 better at Heysel which meant the end of European football for English clubs. davenportram
the stand had zero insurance value and was condemned. No point burning it down apart from saving on demolition costs.
