The bigger picture (injuries)

Iv seen a lot of complaints being made about the lack of information we are being given about injuries. I share the same frustrations as those people. However I think people are over looking the bigger picture. In a game of cards you don't show your opponent your hand early doors. If Simmo or Mac came out and said this week we will be without Martin, Bent and Thorne, your giving the opposition X amount of time to build there game plan on the training pitch around those players being missing. I think its a clever tactic not showing our hand too early.

You mean, like......Martin.....Best......Bent......Russell.....Ward....Lingaard.....Thomas....etc etc etc

Saying we are totally reliant on Martin is just completely lazy journalism, we miss him of course we do, he is a very good player....but.....as an example, Asombolonga hasn't played in the last load of games for that lot....so they look like they are missing him...? they are playing Dexter Blackstock for gods sake..... the reason we are where we are is because we are the 5th best team in the league

And by that I suppose you mean a selection of top class strikers (Martin quality or at least better than Russell), who would each be happy to sit on the bench for the majority of games, whilst not wanting to get paid what they're "worth".

Seeing as we've got 3 DM's out injured, it was stupid not to have at least another 5 in reserve just in case.

We have a strong squad with at least 2 good players for each position. It's bad luck that the injuries we've had have been concentrated in just a couple of them.

Looking at the concentration of the injuries though it's hard to believe that it's pure coincidence. could perhaps be an issue in their training. I imagine this would be something the coaching staff will be looking at and don't need me to tell them that though. (Are you reading this Steve?)

I think there is some frustration with injuries and the news and the dates of return.  It could easily appear that the manager and staff at Derby are trying to calm nervous fans by saying things like "Thorne was rested for Norwich as they wanted him back for Boro", pretty much saying he was close to starting and would be involved in the next game.

When Thorne wasn't even on the bench last night it did make me think of Comical Ali during the gulf war with his 'statements'....

Didn't something like that happen under George Burley for the play off second leg with Preston? I am sure we were told by the club that Rasiak and Idiakez would both miss the second leg. When it got to the day however they both turned up at pride park and they both started the game. I was quite young so I maybe wrong but I'm sure something like that happened.

McClaren has completely failed to divert from the system; a lot of the blame has to be placed at his feet in this.

The last two games have been horrendous, largely because our 'tactics' and set up have been mind-numbing.

I'm no 'McClaren out' person, as I was never a 'Clough out' person, but you have to be fairly ignorant to not put any emphasis on his failings in the whole of this.

For 60 minutes against Norwich, our game plan was to knock it long to Forsyth and have him head it into the middle of the pitch to scramble for - it's pub league stuff.

I said yesterday that he's completely lost himself over the past month or so. I know the system relies heavily on Martin, but there's different systems, different ways of playing and different approaches we can take that don't involve hitting it long.

If the current personnel don't fit 'our' normal system, then agreed it needed to have been changed. Not blindly sticking with it, somehow hoping it works. Hindsight is a wonderful thing however. But if it hasn't worked so far in the last 4-5 matches then he needs to change it on Friday. Nay, he must, As a competent manager he needs to fit the available players in the best system for them, as the current system is not working with the players he puts out there.
