Would you like to rephrase that?

Luke Varney is to return to Sheffield Wednesday on loan until January 1st 2010, after Nigel Clough accepted an approach from the Owls.

The 26 year old striker spent a month at Hillsborough last season, scoring for two goals during that brief spell.

With Rob Hulse, Kris Commons and Steven Davies all fit and available for selection, the Rams manager has decided it will benefit all parties involved to let Luke go out.

Nigel Clough said:

"Luke (Varney) needs to be playing games and clearly he will get a better opportunity at Sheffield Wednesday at this moment in time.

"He went there last season and did well, so it's no surprise they would like to take him back.

"There is no faulting Luke's attitude and he is a great lad; but at this moment in time the change of scenery might do him good and get him that extra sharpness he needs.

"We will be watching him closely while he is out on loan; by no means is he completely out of the picture here."

Cough up you tight begger !

Laws is keen to keep hold of Varney but told a fans' forum that financial restraints could be a stumbling block.

"We're in discussions with Derby, we spoke to them on Tuesday," said Laws.

"We've still got to have discussions about what they want to do with the player, bearing in mind he's got two and a bit years left on his contract."

Laws revealed he had informed Derby boss Nigel Clough of the financial restraints, adding: "We'd be happy to keep Luke Varney but we haven't got any money."

Can we try that one  ' We havn't got any money' but can we have him please !

Derby outcast Luke Varney will be Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine’s first signing on a season-long loan.

The striker was with the Owls for a spell last year and has been allowed to return by Nigel Clough.

Clough will bring in a new striker – and also wants rid of several under-performers following a pitiful campaign.

Derby County striker Luke Varney has rejoined Sheffield Wednesday on loan for the remainder of the season.

Varney spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Hillsborough and scored four goals in 19 appearances for the Championship strugglers.

New Owls boss Alan Irvine admitted last week that he would struggle to bring Varney back to the club until he had moved other players on.

However, Irvine has managed to conclude a deal for the 27-year-old and is happy to have the former Crewe Alexandra front man in his squad.

"Luke Varney is a player that I have admired very much since he started his league career at Crewe," Irvine told the club's official website.

"He has a tremendous work ethic and the right attributes that I seek in a player.

"Luke has already proved himself a very popular player during his two loan spells so far with Sheffield Wednesday and I am delighted to welcome him back to the club for the rest of the season."

Varney is expected to go straight into the Owls' squad for Saturday's game at home to relegation rivals Peterborough United.
