Curtains
It says a lot that the three biggest signings this season (Di Maria, Fabregas and Sanchez) have come to the PL because they're not wanted by Real/Barca any more. The best 3 players in the world (Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez) all play in La Liga. Yet, more people watch the PL because it's just a lot more exciting. It looks good on a highlights reel, its full of pace and power and stuff that your basic football fan will like; they aren't going to appreciate the passing capabilities of Spanish teams, they just want to see people score screamers. The PL is also full of characters like Mourinho or whatever crazy Liverpool striker's about doing dumb **** that season. Just a thoroughly entertaining league.I bet Suarez likes fishing he likes a bite lol Messi is Latin so Spain fits . Ronaldo is from Madeira so Spain fits. Suarez likes a bite so The Premier League is better off without him

Day
Competitive for what though? It is a myth that up to 8 teams can win it and used as marketing purposes. Realistically it will be out of chelsea or cityI never claimed they could win it, but in terms of quality the gap is decreasing and is more competitive.13/14 Everton in 5th finished 14pts behind Man City12/13 Spurs in 5th finished 17pts behind Man Utd11/12 Newcastle in 5th finished 25pts behind Man City
Alph
4.7bn watch the Premier League around the world, clearly a hell of a lot of people believe in the hype. The most watched leagues in order: Premier League Serie A La Liga Bundesliga The average TV audience for Barclays Premier League games is 12,3 M of viewers. In the second place there's Serie A Tim with 4,5 M of viewers. There's a huge gap, maybe impossible to recoup, but the reality is that
Curtains
Doesn't reflect quality though. I watch Serie A but I don't think any of the teams are as good as their Spanish counterparts. I doubt many would claim otherwise. PL marketing power is unreal. The Spanish league does seem strong outside the obvious. Where if you were to watch Wolfsburg v Stuttgart you'd laugh at some of the defending but it'd entertain you. I'm surprised the viewing figures for Serie A are so high. Thought people found it boring. Wonder how many people hung onto it from Channel 4 like me. They were the days lol .http://youtu.be/mAo7TrQ0aXw
Duracell
Just because loads of people watch it doesn't make it better. Loads of people bought "It's Chico Time" and it got to number 1, but I have my reservations as to whether it was the song of the greatest quality at the time. For me the Serie A is the most corrupt slow paced league in the world. I haven't watched huge amounts of Bundesliga or La Liga but when I do I don't see a massive gap in terms of quality outside the top 2 in both leagues. Alph
Competitive doesn't mean good either. Otherwise the Championship would be more viewed than any of them. Being honest I quite like watching the top PL sides play the lower PL sides. Rarely watch La Liga outside the top sides. They're good teams but can't get into it

Day
I'm going to bow out of this one with this as I have to get ready, a pint has my name on it....I think a lot of people like to knock this country, our football, our national team. Everything foreign is more exciting, better quality, more entertaining....look at the reaction to Omar joining, had he been an English player from Man Utd only having played in the reserves the hype wouldn't be so great.Reality is the La Liga and Bundesliga are overhyped by fans in England, I'm not saying they are not quality leagues they are, but are they any better than the Premier League? no. Real, Barca, Bayern are miles ahead of our top teams that's true but beyond that I really don't see where people are coming from. And for those knocking the money in the Premier League and how Sky have ruined it I'm sure if Derby go up this season you will be against spending the money we receive and any parachute payments if we come straight back down. Playing Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Everton, Newcastle will be no more exciting than playing Cardiff, Norwich, Watford, Wolves etc.If you are really against the Premier League then stop watching it, unsubscribe from Sky Sports and pay no attention to it at all. Would you sit and watch a box set of films that were overhyped, overrated? Football his entertainment, if you're not entertained don't watch it, simples. Now if you would excuse me I'm off to get ready xxx

What are we talking about though because when Merson said "best" he means in quality? Some of those Spanish sides (admit I don't follow La Liga much) look far better than Villa and Co. The Italian league is 2nd most viewed but if you want goals and chances the Bundesliga thrashes it. The Dutch league is the same. Full of attacking football. I guess the PL is the most diverse? That's why it's easy to sell? It's the highest quality you can view while enjoying the most pace? But if Merson is talking about best quality which I think he was? Those Spanish also rans don't look like teams I'd want Derby to face every week.
Alph
You can't keep saying "why would you want Derby in the top flight" etc. If we were in Latvia I'd want Derby as high as possible. As rich as possible and as successful as possible. One more thing that bothers me about the PL brand. Teams would rather finish 17th in the PL than win a trophy. Bris Vegas
The Premier League is the most watched league because of it's diversity - nothing to do with the quality. How many foreigners take up the PL? Around 67% isn't it? In Spain, that figure is around 40% and in Germany 50% (with a sizeable chunk coming from Poland/Austria/Switzerland). English teams have such huge followings from around the world and it isn't anything to do with the quality of the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Brom. Mexican TV broadcasted Premier League games to over 130 million Mexicans because of Javier Hernandez's move to Manchester United. Now that he doesn't play, the deal has been cancelled - the PL is no longer on cable TV. Do you think Man United bought Ji-Sung Park because they thought he was a fabulous footballer? Don't you think there was a little bit of politics involved on that one? La Liga has the best players in the world, and it's laughable how much your average Premier League fan underestimates the quality beyond the top three. Sevilla for instance didn't win the Europa League three times in eight years by accident - a trophy which City, United and Spurs have all flopped in. I can't get over how poor the bottom half of the Premier League is, and people think that is quality - it isn't. When you talk of the Premier League's quality, you think of Man City 6-3 Arsenal. You dont think of Southampton and WBA playing out a dire 0-0 draw.

English teams never do well in the europa league, the obly exception was chelsea, in comparison to spanish teams. Srg
It's the age old debate of "what constitutes the best league in the world?" It's all down to what you think, so you'll find it difficult to agree on. If you want the worlds absolute best players, go for La Liga. (Yet only 2 or 3 teams ever in with chance of doing anything) If you want competitiveness, go for The Championship. If you want pace and power sprinkled in with some of the worlds best players and a hint of unpredictability, then it's the Premier League.
