rezner Posted August 18, 2014 Share Posted August 18, 2014 Sky Sports understands Derby County are poised to sign German youngster Tom Koblenz from Hoffenheim. Hoffenheim midfielder Koblenz has been on trial at Derby and featured in their recent Under 21s win over Middlesbrough. The 19-year-old was a regular in the Hoffenheim Under 19s side last season, helping them win the Bundesliga Under 19 title. A number of English clubs have been credited with an interest in Koblenz, but Derby are set to win the race for his signature. Koblenz has impressed Steve McClaren and his coaching staff during his stint at the club and they are ready to push through a deal for the midfielder. Koblenz is seen as one very much for the future at Derby with the midfielder expected to start in the Under 21s before working his way into the first team. You'd not here much regarding signing under 21's especially players who were emant to go else where seems were winning the race a lot! It could be a factor, but our academy status is not the reason we're signing international u-21s We could technically have signed any of these players before Steve McClaren came in, well before category one.
