There was once a time when there were no substitutes.

There was once a time where it was 2 points for a win.

There was once a time goal difference wasn't even considered.

There was a time where a good pitch had a blade of grass per every 5,000 square meters.

Times change, and I wouldn't be opposed to a 4th sub for extra time. You can't make rules to allow injuries to have special precedence, any rule has to be open or it'll just encourage players to act injured to allow such a fourth sub. So it would need to be simply a 4th sub for extra time.

The one thing I'd say is that it needs to be hard for it to pass, I don't want this to be a step to more subs in general or heaven forbid, interchange. It would need to be done right, thought about.

You might get a team's least effective player being instructed to feign injury in ET to enable withdrawal and the intro of a 'marquee' player who was held back on the bench?

Yeah, I know - just play the 'marquee' player at the outset, to win the game early then - but there are numerous examples of surprising omissions in team selection (like Belgium, Holland) where subs have turned the game late on.

That said, a 4th sub in ET would add spice, I reckon!
