Must admit, gone are the days when Australia had pretty much a European-based XI. I barely recognise any of their players other than Tim Cahill.

Doany even play in the Premier League?

They're in the middle of a complete rebuild. The previous coach went for a 'known is best' method of selection, and it left Australia an old tired side about 8-9 months ago. Holger (the then coach) was sacked after consecutive 6-0 losses to Brazil and France. That coupled with the negative tactics left a lot of people dejected with the national side as a whole.

The FFA (Australian FA) moved to replace Holger with Australia's best homegrown coach, Ange Postecoglou (who, as blasphemous as it my be, I rate higher than McClaren). He was tasked with putting on a respectable performance in Brazil (we'd already qualified by then), a strong performance and potential trophy for our home Asian Cup (this coming January) and to qualify and build a side that could seriously put on a performance in Russia.

A lot of the older generation have since retired or simply fell out of favour, including the likes of Mark Schwarzer, Lucas Neill and Brett Holman.

...that's done for the post!

OH MY WORD, TIMMY CAHILL!!!! OUR ALL TIME GREATEST!

I go away for one minute and it's 1-1. What happened?

The Dutch hit Australia against the run of play on the counter through Robben.

Australia went back up the other end and Cahill scored an absolutely stunning volley.

Expect more to come.

It's bizarre seeing the Dutch trying to hit Australia on the break. I'd take a loss to see them play like this.

Sounds good buddy, similar to Mexico in the sense they've been through a host of managers and finally picked Miguel Herrera whose a brillaint coach - won the Mexican trophy with Club America and then reached the final the following season.

We've dropped the defensive approach and gone with the previous hard-working, high pressure approach with wingbacks.

Gets the best out of players such as Gio, Guardado, Herrera (Porto) and bringing back Rafa Marquez was a stroke of genius. Mexican-based players like Peralta, Vazquez, Layun (who was hated last year) and Aguilar have been great too!

Love it when teams surprise at the tournaments with a unique style. Building for the future too!

For reference sake about the A-league:

Matthew Spiranovic (the tall, lanky centrehalf) plays for the Western Sydney Wanderers

Matt McKay plays for Brisbane Roar

Mark Milligan (played Chile, out with injury today) plays for Melbourne Victory

Ivan Franjic (played Chile, injured as well) plays for Brisbane Roar

So a few home based players making the line up.

Australia are playing. Bresciano could well have buried that.
