Anag Ram
I think if everyone is fit, I would simply swap Milner for Rooney. Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-622933 Share on other sites
DCFC_17
Need to play rooney in the number 10 role, with pace either side Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-622960 Share on other sites

Lord_Ram
I just saw the thread title and came on to give a like, I could've played better than Rooney did, I'd like to see him swapped for Barkley, but I don't think hodgson will have the balls, and will probably stick with him just because of that cross Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-623019 Share on other sites
Ramarena
Henry got it right. Either play him in his position up front or don't play him. That cross aside he was a liability last night. DCFC_17
if we have a "drop rooney" poll can we also have a "drop gerrard" poll aswell? Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-623050 Share on other sites
r4derby
Rooney missed a sitter (for him) last night, but he also played a peach of a cross for Welbeck. Thing is, opposition teams fear the big names, they know Rooney and don't want him to play to his best. So I would play him the number 10, tell him to stay around that area, not drop deep, and make the opposition keep a man or two on top of Rooney. Would allow our other players, such as Sterling, Sturridge etc., to have a bit more space and freedom. Plus, I still really want Rooney to set a WC game alight, like all his early promise showed he would. It was the same when Beckham was nearing the end of his career, you played him just to scare the opposition. David
Rooney is one of our best players, he will also be captain after this World Cup. He's a quality player, playing him out of position is daft and talk of dropping him is beyond daft. Play players in their best position. Accept players have bad games. LeedsCityRam
Rooney is one of our best players, he will also be captain after this World Cup. He's a quality player, playing him out of position is daft and talk of dropping him is beyond daft. Play players in their best position. Accept players have bad games. Spot on. Really frustrating that instead of backing our team, the media have decided to scapegoat one player pre-tournament & predictably, the general public start to run with the same idea too. Like the laughable b*****ks that England players "don't care about their country" or "don't have any passion". The lad's still our best player - in spite of Sterling's fantastic performance last night, I would move Rooney back to the "number 10" role in behind Sturridge & tell him not to interfere with play in our defensive third. His main failing is his desire to help out in every part of the field instead of concentrating on his role. As an aside, I'd replace Welbeck with Lallana - we won't be counter attacking much against Uruguay as they'll sit behind the ball en masse. Therefore, the priority is creativity & ability to retain possession rather than the out & out speed & workrate that Welbeck provides. Alph
There's at least 3 players I'd drop before getting onto Rooney. Johnson Gerrard Welbeck Kyle Walker is a Johnson clone. Need to start trying RB's to find a solution. Gerrard and Welbeck not as good as many of the youngsters. Think Rooney and Milner get too much stick when there's worse than both. Milner defensively is really decent. Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-623194 Share on other sites
Curtains
For goodness sake he needs to play in his best position . Put Sterling on the left and Wayne in the hole Henderson and Baines were rubbish last night as was Johnson Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-623232 Share on other sites

Leicester Ram
I'd like to see a Henderson and Wilshire midfield partnership in the future, but I think Milner probably deserves a start in the holding role. Lallana simply HAS to play, him and Sturridge have had the best seasons out of anyone in the team. Pretty **** luck that Walcott's injured, because this would actually be a decent line up. -------------Sturridge----------- Lallana----Rooney----Walcott But right now, I'd play Sterling there. I'd fall asleep if we had Milner there. Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-623238 Share on other sites
needles
I wouldn't have him anywhere near the team. One of our best players? When? When did he last light up a game like Sterling did last night? If he was at Hull instead of manu he wouldn't have made the squad. Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-623246 Share on other sites
Alph
Argh I hate Walcott!! Think he's ***** at anything but running I don't hate Welbeck or Milner like most. I like Barkley, Wilshere, Lallana and Sterling. Well, Sterling seems like a d1ck but he's got a lot of promise. I don't understand what Welbeck is. He's basically a target man? RLACML
Shouldn't play, he's not good enough. Milner-Lallana-Sterling in behind Sturridge. Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-623251 Share on other sites
Bris Vegas
Welbeck wouldn't be at the World Cup if he was German, Argentine, Brazilian, French, Spanish, Dutch etc.. I really don't see what he offers. Rooney needs to be in the number 10 role, but then again Sterling is a better ball-carrier and he looked far better in the middle than out wide last night. It's a dilemma, as you're going to remove a great threat in either Sterling or Rooney - but which one? Agree with Alpha, James Milner is a brilliant defensive winger - he'd have been far better on the left than Rooney/Welbeck to stop Italy's attacks down their right - but that is said with hindsight. One thing that puzzed me yesterday was why Rickie Lambert wasn't thrown on at the end. It was obvious italy were shutting up shop and our only option was to get the ball wide and throw crosses in. Bringing on Lallana and Barkley was a waste, one of them yes, but not both... r4derby
Henderson and Baines were rubbish last night as was Johnson Thought Henderson played quite well, he put a shift in and did an ok job against a very good Italian midfield Link to comment https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/15318-drop-rooney/#findComment-623282 Share on other sites
