Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough has refused to rule-out the possibility of raiding his former club Derby County when the transfer window reopens next month.

Clough, who spent four years at Pride Park before being appointed as David Weir’s successor earlier this term, made the admission ahead of Saturday’s victory over Swindon Town which left United 19th in the League One table.

“That might be a possibility,” he said. “It’s something we have spoken and talked about.

“It’s always an advantage when you know the people and the individuals concerned.

“So, yes, that’s something we have looked at doing because we left some very good players there.”

Johnny Russell, previously of Dundee United, is among those Steve McClaren, Clough’s replacement, could allow to leave the East Midlands. The 23-year-old centre-forward, who cost a reported £750,000 when he left Dundee United six months ago, appeared as a second-half substitute during County’s win at Charlton Athletic 48 hours ago.

Clough, speaking at United’s annual general meeting of shareholders, also confirmed Lecsinel-Jean Francois will feature in a friendly against Huddersfield Town later today as he continues his own recovery from injury."

What madness is this? Johnny Russell? What are they smoking?

Good as Nigel undoubtedly is, he does not have the credentials of a Lord Brian, despite being of his pedigree.

He can hardly be expected to offer a premiership title and a couple of Champions league medals as an inducement to join Wednesday.

He is a great team builder but at present a first team place at Derby is more attractive than personal loyalty and friendship.

Let's adopt a wait and see policy on this one.

Ben Davies would seem a good move for all parties.I also wouldn't be surprised to see Conor Sammon move there - I can't see him remaining happy to be a bit part player. I suppose that Legzdins is also a possibility, although I get the feeling that he was annoyed that Clough transfer listed him.

I think Nigel should morally take Saul Deeney as he kept extending his contract for no apparent reason.

I could see O'Brien and Bennett going on loan.
