The cars out there atm are just test pieces, each trying to gain data without showing their hand. Like a pre-season friendly team really. Even the engines are still recieving new designs.
The general rule most teams follow is; design it, go testing, find someone that did it better, copy that.

You have to heat carbon fibre at high temperatures to set it and get the materials to work, final temp is usually around 1200c.

The cure temperature of the carbon isn't very high, its usually kept in freezers before use to stop unwanted curing. Although it does vary depending on the type of fibre.

They bits of an F1 car which get hot aren't painted at all because it would just flake off, like around the exhausts.

Lots of internal components are single use and start out painted in ultra high temp paints, athough its not really a paint as much as a liqiud ceramic. Even if the engine catches fire the paint can remain.

  • 3 weeks later...

A computer virus that hit on the first day of the Bahrain test put Marussia on the back foot for the rest of its running at the Sakhir circuit.

The ex-Virgin squad completed only 29 laps during the four-day test, fewer than any other team, with the virus that the team spent Wednesday fixing effectively wiping out the day.

"It started off with the first disaster, which was a computer Trojan-type virus in the racks, which cost us the best part of the day," team principal John Booth told AUTOSPORT.

"So that set the tone for the week."

Stupid idea, at least it is not being extended.

Formula 1 bosses have decided against extending the double points scheme to the final three races of the season.

A proposal by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone to extend the scheme from the last race of the season was discussed at a strategy group meeting.

Participants agreed not to reveal details, but a source close to the talks told BBC Sport that the plan was rejected.

How are McClaren doing - very little being reported about them

Not too well at all. They seem to be the slowest Merc team. The reliability is there, but now rivals are concentrating on their performance, the McLaren is slipping down the time sheets.
