Defender sees his loan spell with Derby come to an end early.

Adam Smith has returned to Tottenham Hotspur after his loan deal with Derby County was mutually terminated this afternoon.

The 22-year-old right-back joined the Rams on the eve of the new season and made 10 appearances in total in a Derby shirt.

Following the loan signings of Andre Wisdom from Liverpool and Michael Keane from Manchester United in recent weeks, Smith’s first-team opportunities were likely to be restricted.

Derby County would like to take this opportunity to wish Adam all the very best for the future.

Does mutually terminated mean that we don't have to pay out the rest of his wages?

Would imagine it means us and spurs have agreed a deal over the contract! Probably paid some of his wages. Spurs now free to send him out in January. Loan fee will be lost at a guess

You can bet your bottom dollar we have lost out on the deal, we always fooking do.

It's a loan, you'll never make money! Like hiring anything?

We'll have saved by cutting the deal short rather than let him sit here all season. Good move all round, try and look for positives sometimes

So we can't sell him back to Tottenham for more than the loan fee? God we always mess up on these sort of deals.
