The deadly Forsyth cross

Wasteful? I don't recall any chances other than bennetts one on one when we were already ahaed? Few openings but no sitters to speak of

Will Hughes had a sitter with Campy on the ground when he got knocked over by his own defender for a start. Tried to chip it in and put it 2 yards over the bar.

The first Bennett miss was a clear 3-on-1 and was almost as bad as Rooney's laughable effort on the telly this afternoon. Mostly it was stuff like that - wasting the ball in good positions or taking the wrong option as opposed to cow's arse and banjo stuff. Dawkins and Bryson both running through, trying to beat the last defender then actually losing control of the ball.

We were not as ruthless as we can be.

Calling Hughes effort a sitter is harsh in the extreme! Agree we weren't great going forward yesterday, thought it was more the fact we played ok at best that contributed to it. Looked solid but were nowhere near our fluent best. Wasn't like we missed sitters, just wrong options/poor final balls that hindered us

Only judging Will by his own standards. He would normally put that sort of chance away.

Thought Forsyth was excellent again last night.

Yep - I thought so too. Becoming really consistent, solid in defence and a threat going forward.

Forsyth struggles against tricky fast wingers who run directly at him, he is also easily panicked into making hoofed clearances. It's easy to spot what he does wrong. I also think that the 433 formation puts a lot of pressure on the full backs as they quite often have to watch two opponents at once. In many cases Forsyth has been blamed for failing to cut out a cross, when he was busy marking another player.

However, he also adds a huge amount to the side. He is superb in the air and sweeps up anything that comes in high on his side of the pitch. He is also handy to have around for set pieces going into either box. He also makes numerous interceptions which stifle a lot of attacking moves. He also has this deadly cross, which at times is unplayable - fast, at knee height, between keeper and defence. All our forwards have to do is get a touch and it's a goal.

It seems that Forsyth's weaknesses will always cost us a few goals a season, but his strengths will save and make us far more goals than costs us.
