Brammie Steve
It's me again! I love to discuss watches at the other end (AKA cheap) of the scale. I have been ferreting in my junk box (items off eBay) for trench watches. Imagine my surprise (!) when I saw this Lanco which must be circa 1920. It is still working and keeping good time. Apart from giving the case a polish I am reluctant to take it apart. They don't build them like this anymore! RadioactiveWaste and Cisse

I have the Conquest Classic, same movement I think but waterproof and steel strap. I have it serviced every 2 to 3 years and it comes back like new! Wear it everyday. Useful side effect was could turn the freezer off as the room temperature dropped to well below freezing. Tamworthram

Phoenix
Expensive watches. I saw an article about a bloke who had a Rolex, genuine, boxed with all the paperwork, reiceipt etc. His mate came back from some overseas trip with an 'identical' watch, which had cost him a few quid, presumably with a quartz movement.. They compared them and could find no discernable visual difference. They thought the genuine one was a little heavier. The only difference was that the fake kept better time. They do make really good fakes these days. There are some things that often tell the truth for a watch fan and with Rolexes the weight is one. For me the big thing with fakes, watches or otherwise is that the money goes mostly to criminals and sometimes for things like funding terrorism. There are a lot of visually similar watches like the big names as Rolex that are still legit. Like Christopher Ward. 'The Watch Guy' is a really reputable, knowledgeable and passionate repairer/restorer, in England, although I think he's mid-european or German. This seems to be a different sort of fake. https://watchguy.co.uk/fake-rolex-submariner-114060/ Fascinating web site
