Anyone had any issues with insurance? Had a couple of the house insurance, no problem, no added clauses. Went to add the Breitling and all of a sudden I have to live in Fort Knox.. Apparently I have to keep them in safe which is built into either the floor or the wall..

If you insure them individually we are being quoted a couple of hundred per watch..

Check out Hiscox mate, the best.

Welcome to the dark side!

Surely there are companies who specialise like they do with Classic Cars.

Looking at it from their point of view a Breitling watch is probably no harder to steal than a cheapo from the market.

An expert could no doubt bump into you, apologise, and make off with it while it iwas on your wrist.

So could a mugger, armed or threatening.

If you take the option of locking it away then what’s the point of having it in the first place?

A watch is for life, not just for status.

PS I have more watches than I could ever wear as I only have two wrists but I put an upper figure in the low hundreds for a good investment.

My latest Omega cost me a Year’s insurance on a Breitling and I’m not afraid to wear it.

Yes of course there are companies that specialise and will insure them separately, I said that in my original post.. The cost is stupid though. My point is that I can wear them and be covered (under the home insurance) but as soon as I get home they have to be kept in a built in safe. It’s not just a Breitling, we ha e a few others as well.

Watches are covered under contents insurance are they not? Just put a number down what you’re insuring and away you go.

Leave it all to the missus, but each year I’m asked what are by gadgets and devices worth and to make sure I keep all my receipts that’s it.

Once your renewal is up, stick a few grand extra on.

That's where we started but she added the watches as we purchased. Maybe that was a mistake but we wanted to make sure they were covered. Now the insurers have added the safe clause otherwise they are not insured whilst in the house.

No safer in a safe, unless it’s something that can’t be carried off, or well hidden.

That's the point, they are insisting it's built into a wall or the floor. They are nice watches but bloody hell, I may have to put the car in there as well.

It’s a bloody scam , we’ve never had a claim on home insurance ever , any single item over a certain amount rubbish , I had the argument that we’ve just bought a mattress that came to best part of 2,5 k so how come that is not listed separately, just got a lot of guff

Can't see the fascination with expensive watches. Still wear the Russian made sekonda I got for my 21st, tells the time just the same as any more expensive watch. The replacement strap I had for it probably cost more than the watch.

The fascination for me is only true for totally mechanical watches. My Omega Seamaster QMatic. is semi quartz but charges by movement. My absolute favourite is my Longines Conquest Classic chronometer. Absolute masterpiece of miniature engineering. Cost a fortune to service, but keeps excellent time.

PS When you look at your watch smile for Mr. Putin, he is watching (?) you.
