Day
Nigel Clough says he’s expecting a quiet end to the transfer window at Derby County. The January window will slam shut at 11pm this evening and ahead of the deadline, the Derby chief is expecting no activity involving the Rams. Clough said at the start of January that he was happy with the squad he had at his disposal, and as a result the only transfer move to take place during the month has been Nathan Tyson’s loan move to Millwall for the rest of the season on a loan basis. He said: “With just today to go, we’re not expecting too much to happen and going into the final 12 hours of the window we’ve had no contact from clubs about our players, and no bids either. “We’re hoping that remains the case throughout today, which is what we expect to happen. "Nobody will be coming in before the deadline but we're already looking at the loan window which opens next week." Speculation was rife going into the New Year linking a number of players with moves away from Pride Park, but Clough remained strong in his belief that the stories were nothing more than ‘pure speculation’. He explained: “There was a lot of talk in December and in the lead-up to January, but we said at the time it was speculation and that has proved to be the case as we sit here today. “We’ve not been looking to actively move anyone on, contrary to what people say, so we’re in the position we expected, and wanted to be in, to be honest. “The only outgoing player has been Nathan Tyson, but that’s because he asked to go out on loan to play first-team football on a regular basis. “As I said, the loan window opens next week as well so that’s an avenue we may well be exploring in the future, but obviously only if a deal is right for us. “We’ve already got our eye on one or two players who we think could improve us going forwards, so if there’s a way we could get them in to take a look at them with a view to a permanent move in the summer then we’ll try to do something about it.” http://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/article/boss-expects-quiet-window-closure-629659.aspx
VulcanRam
Well I think we already knew no-one was coming in, so I guess no-one going out is the best we could have hoped for. Still time though for some last ditch cheap bids for Hughesy and Brayford,...
Day
Interesting bit at the end regarding loan players which I've not seen before, may see a new face or two in next month, a little bit of hope for those with razor blades in hand to hold on to. ChaddesdenRam
Simeon Jackson must still be a viable loanee with view to perm. I reckon it will be one player from scotland that is out of favour. Maybe a couple out of favour young prem players i.e what frank fielding was. Will be very intersting
rynny
Why wait until next week to loan them in? Why not loan them now? Can't we afford the wages for the extra week? Animal is a Ram
Maybe he feels that he can strike a better loan deal in the loan window, as clubs may well be more favourable to permanent sales? Said players may well be out of contract/cheaper in the summer. Who knows.. this is Clough.

Why don't they just simplify them and either say transfers can be made at any time or transfer can only be made before the season starts?
ramblur
Not certain but doesn't the 'emergency loan' window only open after the transfer window is closed? How did we manage to loan Tyson out if loans couldn't happen in this window?

ramblur
Thought that after I had posted it actually! Can anyone explain the loan window?! I think the loan windows are the same as for transfers, but with the added later bonus of the emergency (joke) loan window. An old sceptic like me might wonder if we're viewing this emergency window as a contingency against anyone leaving. On the other hand you could argue that our targets' clubs might want to wait till the end of the normal window to see if any fee based bids came in,thus denying us the chance to get them on loan now. JohnClement
Based on last summer the aim presumably will be to get rid of 3 of our best players & replace them with 3 poor ones -Shackell, Green, Davies out Keohgh, Jacobs, Sammon in. So in the summer -Brayford, Hughes & Hendrick out More ex Burton Albion & Scottish rubbish in unless of course we can find another 3rd rate centre back from one of the teams relegated in the championship. ReluctantRam
Anyone can make transfers / loans in January. Only the Football League can make non-emergency loans afterward. In other words, let the official window pass, remove Premiership clubs from the equation and then see who's available on more favourable terms coz they didn't get the transfer they were hoping for. rynny
The emergency loan window is for a maximum 93 day loan to help teams out in the football league. No other leagues in other countries have the emergency loan window.

Keogh is a significantly better player than Shackell. Jacobs plays out wide far better than Green, and has so far not broken down with injury either. Sammon is a different type of player to Davies and offers more to the team overall. When coupled with the fact that he's already made more appearances this season than Davies managed in a season for us, and the he has 6 goals, a mark Davies took into his third season with us to do, and into his fourth to beat in a season, speaks volumes about Sammon's comparative value to the team. Conclusions, we've replaced Davies, Shackell and Green with better players.

Keogh is not significantly better than Shackell - Marginal between both of them, if anything Shackell was probably better IMO. Davies is a much better footballer than Sammon but you're right - they're different players. I think the team needed a Sammon more than they needed a Davies. Green was a poor footballer, and was replaced with a promising young player, who is very under-stated IMO. The teams better, but still not close enough to where we want to be.
