DERBY County striker Mason Bennett has been called up to the England Under-17 squad for next month's Algarve Tournament in Portugal.

The 16-year-old forward has been named in John Peacock's 20-man squad to face hosts Portugal, Germany and Holland.

England's matches take place between Friday, February 7, and Tuesday, February 12, which means Bennett is set to miss Derby's Championship match at Sheffield Wednesday.

Congrats Mason!

Maybe more strikers to leave and mason fund himself further up the pecking order again. I can only see it being Robinson?

......

"We've got Mason Bennett who will be promoted a place or two in the pecking order and if we need somebody to come on, we have got Theo Robinson as well, and we've got Michael Jacobs, who has done well.

"When all the strikers are fit, we are OK.

"Maybe we can afford to let one or two out.

"We are not under any pressure financially to get them out, it's just to get them some games and still not weaken the squad.

"Players who are not in the team can be a nightmare but I cannot stress enough that is not the case with this group of lads.

Mason is a potential 20 goal a season striker - he has the same potential as Will and is the top striker in the country of his age group, by a long way.

I think the more game time/experience he gets the better he'll become. I must admit, I hope he can concentrate on staying out the clubs and pubs, which is difficult as I never managed it - I was the same at his age, well worse but he needs to get his priorities in order.
