Former Wolves and Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy is expected to be named as the new manager of Ipswich this week, BBC Suffolk reports.

McCarthy, 53, who was [url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17012933]sacked as Wolves boss in February, is understood to have agreed a three-year contract.

Former Ipswich midfielder Matt Holland, who played under McCarthy for the Republic, has been linked to a role as his assistant at Portman Road.

Is this the same Mick McCarthy that rejected Forest and all their millions?

McCarthy turned down forest because he feared interference from the owners (QPR, Blackburn style). Ipswich are a similar sized club to the gumps so in Mick's eyes, its no difference other than a board/chairman willing to leave transfer decisions to the manager.

Except McCarthy's ability to read chairmen seems about as good as his ability to keep teams in the Premier League.
