Derby County midfielder Kris Commons has told Rams fans the club aim to challenge for the Championship play-offs next season.

Nigel Clough's side struggled throughout the campaign that has just finished and ended up only eight points above the relegation zone.

Commons told the club's official website: "It's a credit to them how well they have supported us throughout the season, so hopefully next year we will be up and around that top-six area to give them something to cheer about.

"We want to be in and around the play-off area. When we have got our best side together, and everyone fighting fit, we are a good strong outfit.

"This season we have lost key players like Miles Addison, Paul Green and Dean Leacock, and if you take the heart out of the side you are always struggling to maintain your form.

"At times we have looked great, like at Forest and against Manchester United, and at other times we have looked shocking like at home to QPR. Consistency is what we will be looking for next year."
