So sorry to read this Alf. Quite a few have posted about lost friends and loved ones on here, something that often seems forgotten. As for the Tories, I was done with this government before they even started.
All this aside, I hope you and yours can enjoy a peaceful, restriction-free Christmas this year and raise a glass or two your mum.

A meeting of the government's Covid Operations Committee is scheduled for early this afternoon, followed by a cabinet meeting to discuss potentially moving to "Plan B" measures, a government source has told the BBC.
Depending on the outcome, this would be followed by a press conference by the prime minister and House of Commons statement by the health secretary.
The measures under discussion include advice on working from home, further rules on masks and some form of Covid certification.

If they were going to Liquidate us...it would already have happened, Why keep talking?, If HMRC are so bloody obstinate surely they would have sent us to the electric chair by now.

When Vodafone and others got their sweetheart deals, saving them billions in tax, there was no public outcry from the taxpayer. No political fall-out whatsoever. This argument that the taxpayer will feel robbed is overplayed. Fans of rival football teams will of course bang on about it for decades, obviously, like they do about a disrespectful chant they heard at a game 20 years ago, but would have no impact on hmrc or the government. I doubt therefore that "public outcry" will be high on their considerations, but I accept deterrence might be. 
It's also worth pointing out that, when those sweetheart deals were done, no precedent that any other company could rely on was set. HMRC have always followed their own rules within the statutory framework set by government. 

Tell that to one of my ancesters, Who in 1583 owed 1 penny and a farthing for a pair of stockings/socks to keep his wife warm in the winter, He couldn't pay as he had no work, He was taken away by the authoritys, Charged with theft and hanged the next day, As he was walking to the gallows his wife waved to him with the stockings/socks and shouted to him...they're the wrong bloody colour.
