The good thing about this is there seems no way we can play a back 3 against Blackpool, Pompey or Wycombe. The only problem is, who plays right back? Ward? Wilson? Smith? How close is Rooney to a return? Tother side, do we start Elder or Sibs?

    That’s the million dollar question.

Personally anyone but Ward for right back. Think Wilson would be my preferred choice purely because Smith at right back increases the chances of Hourihane starting.

Left back may have to be Elder. Means Sibley can assist us in the final third seeing as we were short in that area.

  2. He made a mistake, he’s only human.

Is it his fault that Rooney, Nyambe Forsyth are injured? Is it his fault that Ward and Wilson look shakey at right back?

He should know better and it has left us in a bit of a pickle. But as others have alluded to, he’s hardly been prime Maldini.

Not too long ago if he’d have got a 3 match ban nobody would’ve batted an eye lid.

Ultimately we’re better off with him available, especially with our injury problems. He probably hasn’t earnt his corn and he made a mistake. But he won’t be the first or the last.

He may come back for Leyton Orient and help us win our last 3.

I think we probably only need four wins but that doesn’t fill me with much more confidence. One thing is petty much certain, the first one needs to come on Friday.

    Yep regards Friday.

Should be beating Cambridge and Carlisle so just need to win against a cup final tired Wycombe or Leyton Orient.

As @MACKWORTHRAM states by Wycombe we could have Gayle, Barkz and Collins available. Just need NML’s injury to not be serious and we’re still in with a chance.

  4. Didn’t watch the match but by all accounts we had a stinker.

Feel low about it all at the moment. But despite the defeat my bigger concern is our injury list.

Sounds like we could have a couple back for the Wycombe match but we’ve got to play 2 matches before then. If NML is out for the season then we’re done for.

Using boring logic, if we win 4 out of our 6 matches it takes us to 90 points. Means one of the chasing pack would need to win 6 out of 7 to overtake us. Some effort if that happens.

Think we need a win on Friday whether it’s a lucky win or deserved. Then using my logic above we need to win 3 out of the last 4. Can’t see us getting more than a point at Pompey.

We've got a set-up that's working - to go 'all guns blazing' and it goes wrong, just think of the flack he'd get on here from the negative minority.

Haven’t we been playing 343 with Barkhuizen?

Just think CBT would’ve slotted in nicely to replace him. Instead he’s being held back.

Good if we’re still level come 70 minutes but a bit safe for my liking.

  6. We've probably not seen value for money this season, but if you accept that in context he was seen as a good signing at the time and we were desperate, you can't really complain.

Like others have said, he's leaning in to the old head, using his experience and organising/cheerleading everyone on side of things and good for him. Doesn't appear to have an ego and he does score goals so if we do need one to take us up, i'd be bringing him on over a Fornah or a Thompson.

  7. 4 wins sees us on 90 points. The chasing pack would need to win 6/7 to jump above us, so statistically we should really be seeing the job through.

Bolton are gonners in my opinion. No way they win 6/7 with their fixtures.

Posh concern me the most as their fixtures are very favourable. But as some of you have pointed out they’ll need to dig deep to keep winning playing every 3 days. Here’s hoping they get a couple of injuries like the rest of us.

Barnsley’s run in is similar to ours but can’t see them overturning the deficit.

Think the season can be split in to 3 groups now:

Northampton - we’re the only top 5 team playing. Win and we’ve cranked the pressure up big time. Draw/lose and the others will get a big boost without kicking a ball.

Easter and Wycombe - 3 teams that can hurt us. Hoping Wycombe will be gassed out from the their final, so hopefully we can steal a win there.

The remaining 3 - Should really be getting 9 points. Leyton Orients season should be over by then. Cambridge have appointed a wally in Monk and Carlisle have been useless.

All in all plenty to be positive about. Just hope Barkz and Gayle aren’t out for too long.

I know he and Ward went off as a precaution, but do we know they won't make Northampton?

Warne said in his interview that Ward was precautionary whereas Barkz sounded a bit more of an injury.

Hopefully its not a long absence but not ideal with Gayle already out.

  9. Fair point.

But my main issue is that nobody this season is as good as Plymouth or Ipswich last season. Over a 1 match play off I’d say all 5 teams this season could’ve got a result against Wednesday but we’re all not better than they were.

Our aim is promotion so if 2 of the 3 slots are already taken then it’s harder to achieve our goals than this season when we’re one of the five better teams. With nothing really between us.

I agree a promotion is a promotion and praise should be given accordingly. But also think it’s not ridiculous to acknowledge that this season is a good one to take advantage of.

OK just for you, it was handball.

But the reality is we created the better chances and didn't take them, and a lot of credit has to go to your goalie. Equally, the responsibility lies with our strikers who are simply not as ruthless as our usual starters, especially Dion Charles.

As I mentioned during the match when we were battering you but couldn't score in a brothel, it was obvious that you'd get a scabby goal to win it which you did, but that's football folks - you don't always get what you deserve, and we didn't deserve to lose that, not that you care.

The irony is that it was Kane Wilson who was credited with the goal - a player we'd agreed a fee with Brizzle to sign, but didn't in the end as his personal terms and wage demands were too high for us, so he came to you instead.

    Anyhoo, onwards and sideways.....

If it was that much of a travesty that Waghorn scored with his hand then why did hardly any of your players appeal?

I didn’t watch yesterday and by all accounts it sounded like you were the more menacing in attack.

But ultimately you’ve played both ourselves and Barnsley in the last couple of weeks and taken a point. So only got yourselves to blame.

FYI I had your squad down as the best in the league and Evatt as the best manager before the start of the season. Could all change again but as things stand you’ve fumbled this big time.

Do you actually have anything meaningful to back your last paragraph up.

You do realise that 75% of the teams are the same as last season?

So really you need to compare who went up and down last season, unless you have evidence that teams that were in the division last season have got worse?

Personally, I'd say some have got better and some worse, so the league is pretty much the same standard as last season.

I’d say it’s easier this year in the sense of we’ve had time to appoint a manager and recruit accordingly. Also easier in the sense than last years top 3 are better than anything in League 1 this season IMO. So easier to achieve our goal of promotion.

But this season is hard as we’re playing what’s in front of us which in this case is 4 others teams of equal strength. So if we go up then we definitely deserve it.

The above said, I do think this season is a good opportunity to go up as I think next years league 1 will be a pit of vipers.

But providing we do go up and with the restrictions off there’s nothing to suggest that next year should be all doom and gloom just because we aren’t as strong as Plymouth were last season.

    Sonny Bradley out today

Nothing too serious - I'm lead to believe it's concussion (hence the sickness etc)

If Fozzy can do 90 minutes then we’ve got away with this one. If not then we’re in the poo.

Neither Wilson or Ward look great at right back and especially in a game of this magnitude.

If it is a back 4 I’d be tempted to go Smith and hope Sibley plays a blinder on the left.

  13. Whenever I’ve seen them recently their football has been similar to Roseniors so I imagine they’ll just look to control the match.

We’ll probably start bright for the first 15 mins and maybe have a good final 15 depending on the score of course. Everything in between will be tightly contested.
