Lawrence is awful. He doesn’t do anything.

Lawrence leading by example in the petulance stakes I see.
What a bizarre decision it has been to make him captain.
Our club is so weird at the moment.

And this is why Lawrence shouldn't be captain.

Not sure what Tom Lawrence is trying to achieve but we need a better captain than this.

I had a coach who used to say "football is a simple game, often played by idiots."
The main example of that is our constant inviting of pressure onto our back four. Always turning back, always looking for the backwards pass. As the opposition forwards charge at us around our penalty area, instead of playing the ball long over their heads, we try to thread a difficult pass through them. Once we've done that we turn round and play it backwards again.
But giving away so many throw-ins in our own half against a team that specializes in long throws is another example I've pointed out earlier in the thread.
The next is assigning Nathan Byrne to mark Jutkiewicz at corners. You.cannot.be.serious. But sadly we are.
Come on Derby! There is still hope.

Lawrence has the amazing ability to make the wrong decision with the ball literally every time he gets it.

Oh Derby and long throws. When we signed world-record holder for long throw-ins, Rory Delap, Jim Smith refused to ever let him take a long throw despite it being such a weapon. When Delap was sold to Stoke and terrorized the Premier League with his long throws, defences worked out the way to counteract it was not to give away any throw-ins in your own half. Derby are kicking it out for a throw all the time. Use.your.brains.
Meanwhile how was that not a foul and booking for the vicious charge in Byrne's back on the side of the box? We will get nothing from this ref. I hope he looks at half-time at the coverage of the sandwich on Sibley, that foul on Byrne, and all the fouls on Morrison, and realizes he's been taken for a mug by Birmingham. But somehow I doubt it...

Thought we started the game really well but it didn’t take long until we started inviting Birmingham onto us with misplaced passing and some pretty poor tempo “fannying around”.

Tough ask second half. Every player needs to up their game, Captains got to lead by example at some point too. Need a performance from Tom.

Sibley sandwiched in a run through on goal. No foul given. Goal-scoring opportunity. Unsurprisingly, Don Goodman saw nothing wrong with it. It's hilarious when commentators see the replay and the clear and obvious foul, but keep to their daft original opinion.

This fannying about with the ball at the back, always looking backwards, trying to draw opponents on and deliberately put ourselves under pressure, is an absolutely idiotic way of playing unless your team is full of world class stars. I do not understand why we try to do it. We are so very often the architects of our own downfall. Just stop it.

I agree. I haven’t been to St Andrew’s for a good few years but I always hated them singing:

Your offensive, but inaccurate, cultural references have no effect on me
I am not from West Bromwich, nor Dudley

If there was absolutely no advantage to be gained why did we choose such an unusual method? So unusual no other club in the football league used  the same method.  From the little I've read (and am happy to be shown I'm wrong) it does seem as though we gained an advantage through minimising losses via  a unique way of measuring amortisation. Now that's a separate question from do other clubs use loopholes to gain a systematic advantage over others where we can look at others and point out some hypocrisies going on and it's even separate from the question of whether we really did anything wrong. But it looks (again from the little I have read) that we used a method that did give us a significant advantage over others.

I'm in the camp now where the EFL aren't backing down and Mel should come to an agreement even if it is a points deduction. Dragging this on isn't in the club's best interest, it is simply burning the club and even if we come away with a victory it'll likely be a pyrrhic one with us looking at potential relegation. I don't know if it's ego that's the issue here, that Mel can't tolerate being told he's wrong and is fighting it all the way to get some kind of vindication that he was in the right all along  but I'm finding it difficult to understand why we haven't come to a mutual agreement on this still.

The U23s are playing away at Everton at 7pm tomorrow night: https://southportfc.net/information-everton-u23-v-Derby-county/
I cannot fathom, with our threadbare squad, why we are organizing our U23 matches to coincide with out first team games. For me it's a recipe for the U23s being relegated from the top division this season.

I understand that Gaspode, but this smacks of closing the gate before the horse is even in the field. The EFL are demanding that Mel shows proof of funding. Fair enough I suppose, but if he does so, the HMRC situation becomes utterly moot.
I'm afraid they are simply tying the club in knots for reasons I've already outlined too many times to warrant doing so again. I can accept the charges levied if we are given a fair crack at addressing them. What sticks in my craw is the total lack of consistency either in terms of the current situation, or historically. Again, the obvious historical examples have been cited ad nauseum.
I'd resist any EFL sanctions on that very basis, though I appreciate that stance leaves me in a diminishing minority. When I read posts saying 'let's just take the 9 point hit and move on', I can't help but ask on what basis, but then perhaps I'm just being stubborn ?‍♂️

Far be it from me to suggest that the EFL are a snivelling bunch of feckless trough sniffers, but is the HMRC charge really something they should be concerning themselves with? I'd have thought any sanctions relating to this particular matter should fall under the jurisdiction of HMRC themselves. Not sure they require any additional support from sherry-slurping, bungle-gibsons like the EFL, whose only claim to fame seems to be making a colossal clusterfuck of the job with which they are tasked. Seems to me that HMRC are quite capable of any required enforcement measures themselves without any such 'aid' ?‍♀️

I think the point of his intervention is that it's not good enough to communicate with a tiny portion of the fans, it needs to be all of us.
The recent meeting was a terrible idea, but the blame lies on the club, not the attendees. I'd imagine several of those present would love to just spill what was said, and damn the consequences, but fear doing so could put the entire future of DCFC in the balance.
That's not a burden that should have been placed on their shoulders, all the meeting has achieved is division and suspicion amongst the fan base, and increased speculation to fill the vacuum of silence.

After an all night bender at uni, me and a few mates thought it would be a laugh to go to Chelsea v Derby at the bridge in early 1983.
Never been previously, followed the crowd down a busy road watching as blue scarved fans peeled off and went in to various turnstiles. Until we reached the last set of gates and saw the sign "The Shed".
A police guy on a horse was shouting through a megaphone that "all away fans should turn around now and return down the road in the opposite direction to the stand for the away fans". To which a cheerful cockernee voice chirped "wots the dacking point of saying that - if any geezer turned rahnd nah, ee'd get a dacking kicking".
So in we went. Plenty of space so we stood apart. Then we scored 2 quickfire goals. The locals were certainly restless. Then my mate Brian, a lanky gormless guy from Burnley boomed out in a loud Lancashire accent.... "eee.. I doon't knaw why yerr not cheeerin....yer team's just scorrred".
    Which sealed our fate...... ?
