Here are some 71/72 players, with Gordon Guthrie as a player. A lot of people won't know that Tim started the Ex-Rams charity games after he retired and also the Ex-Rams Old Players Association (together with Breedon Books who used to sponsor the evening). Third from right kneeling is Malcolm Edmondson and next to Kevin Hector is John Bowers Jnr in the tracksuit, both worked at the Telegraph. I think this is Northcliffe United?

Although nothing to do with this season, here are some Tim Ward images no one will have seen, they are his personal images.

I don't think plan B was administration, I think that you could have gone through the entire alphabet 3 years ago and still wouldn't have envisaged a 'covid' situation. Even during WW2, clubs were having supporters coming through the turnstiles to watch guest players playing for your team.
Take away covid, what would our current position be? I doubt very much that we'd be in administration.  I suspect that the playing staff would have been cut back, but not to the extremes we have now.  I also suspect that we would be facing some sort of points penalty, but again not to the level that we currently fear. I don't believe that before covid, anyone could predict a situation where Derby could end up in this situation.
Under the previous owners and Nigel's management, we had had years of mediocre football and had shown no ambition, I think that the consensus of the support at the time was that we were prepared to take a gamble and without the benefit of hindsight, not even contemplating the actual cost of failure.

At 5ft 9in, I never stood a chance of making it as a goalie, until now, at 62 playing walking football, the goals are only 6ft high. ?

Bennett, all day long, Malone was a decent player for us, but was quite often a scapecoat. He was bundled out of the club and it was made clear to him that he had no future here. Bennett, on the other hand, was always given the benefit of the doubt by the management and the fans, including me, because he was 'one of our own'. His subsequent actions since 'Joinergate' have left a very sour taste.

I'd have Foukes around the same height as me at 5'11, which unfortunately saw me released at 16, however he is playing for the U23's, essentially a ressies side which shows confidence by the club in him and also a level beyond the lads that were youth keepers at Derby at my age and the year after who were both under 6 foot and didn't grow so never played beyond the U18's.
Most GK coaches I speak with won't really look at ANY keeper under 6 foot, but i still maintain that if the talent is there then give them a chance a lad I know who was released at 15 by Reading went away and did A levels and trained privately with coaches has just been signed by Everton for their Dev sides.

You are so right about Derby and Derbyshire Brailsford. When I moved up I was immediately at home in a City with an identity. Much as I miss the coast and woods of Essex I was always associated as being from London. I moved up for college and have never left, Derby gave me identity in a way but more it gave me Derbyshire and it’s beauty. Whatever happens for the club, god forbid liquidation, it must not change from being County.

I wasn’t going to mention the loan cos you get people saying “we broke the rules so weren’t eligible” ignoring the fact that when the EFL drew up the eligibility criteria they included a clause that they knew full well would rule DCFC out.

You’re conveniently ignoring the fact that every other club also had access to an £8M loan to help them cope with the impact of COVID….

Difference is most didn’t have a business plan based around a guaranteed £20m revenue from having spectators in the ground. And those that did were subsidised by parachute payments, or got promoted.

Looks like it was match day ten v WBA when the crisp new white shirts with no trim were introduced, this one was Ron Webster’s no2 shirt, soon to be Champions of England !

So we started the season and played the first ten or so games in this hybrid shirt, a blend of the old design with the hooped neck and cuffs, this was of course the first attempt at Brian Clough’s to replicate the England kit, away from Black and White to Blue and White, also the Ram was new, the snorting ram, it had a bit of attitude about it and has sat there ever since.

Went up and scraped staying up on the back of Grealish imo. If Grealish had been out for a couple of weeks more in 2019 they wouldn’t have made the play offs

Yes, the "dominate the division" parachute payments he spent really worked out well, if only dastardly other teams hadn't robbed them by being better at "football"

We've already had our run of players being out: Kazim, Baldock, Knight all missed a long run of games, plus Bielik still to come back in. We've also had a number of players out 'ill' and a few suspensions.
Buchanan, Festy, Bird, and Knight in my opinion will only get better as the season goes on. I also have hopes that Sibley will continue to mature and establish himself as a top attacking player later in the season.
A couple of additions in January, notably a pacey CB, will have a bigger impact than some realise. It would assist in the tactics being implemented by Rooney, in that we can afford to play a higher line and push the wing backs forward and not get punished as often.

The way I've read this is that the admins know Kirchner or A.N other who are already far down the line to do a deal is a much better option for DCFC than The Kray twins. This is why they've put an unrealistic timeline together for the brothers so it puts them off.
I've got a good feeling about Kirchner or Appleby and will be happy with either, especially if we have this sorted before Christmas.

Great stuff Brailsford, like you I am one of the lucky ones having first watched the Rams in the late fifties. My first match was a reserve game in '57 (Normo end upper tier) with my wonderful uncle Tom who was a Ram through and through. I graduated to the kids corner by '59 and barely missed a home game therefter. By 1960 I was going to a lot of away games and by '62 and earning a crust I hardly missed a game home or away (midweek fixtures like Plymouth being nigh on impossible for me in them days!)
Whilst the Clough/Mackay is obviously the highlight for me I have to say that I really enjoyed the early sixties. I remember those players (Parry, Powell, Oxford, Barrowcliffe, Young, Curry, Hall, Hutchinson, Davies,  Conwell, Upton, Hughes (Billy and Gordon), Swallow, Buxton, Moore, Adlington, Havenhand  etal) with much fondness! Linked with the 'swinging sixties' of the Beatles, mini skirts and cheap ale the early sixties were just incredible and the Rams at that time were, for me and my mates, a significant part of the whole package! Let's hope it can be repeated one day.
For all that my departed father in law did even better! Having been demobbed from the Air Force he managed to get hold of a ticket for the Cup Final,  hitchhiked to Wembley and saw our famous victory!
So he saw us win the Cup and then experienced 2 league titles,  not bad eh!
