  1. I get the vibes that for the very reason this thread has popped up is that there is minimal faith in our team winning the last two games. Otherwise the result tonight is an absolute irrelevance. But there seems to be a certain amount of hand wringing already about the inevitably of Bolton winning against Shrewsbury.

I'd like Pompey to go up, Bolton not so much, there just seems an undertone around their club that they deserve it more than the other contenders. This may come from tne manager - one of those who in his own mind never deserves to lose a game and isn't shy in telling everyone.

Funnily enough the same band thought that was true too...

Having said that, my heart sank when I saw the team sheet, because like a bad smell, Bradley was back in. My only surprise was that Warne's other boyfriend Hourihane wasn't starting,

Not really sure what relevance how Paul Warne identifies has to do with the match yesterday but it only goes to further undermine whatever points you were attempting to put across in your esteemed post match analysis.

It's a pretty crass item to include in any match report, unfortunate at the best and borderline offensive at the worst.

There was a group of lads in the west stand, one of them dressed in a Derby strip (shirt, shorts and socks). I got chatting to them in the concourse at half time, turns out it was a stag do, the groom, dressed in the strip, was a Leyton Orient fan and after the match they were heading to Nottingham for a night out.

    Class😀

Hope they enjoyed sampling the interior of the QMC last night if they were going round town in a Derby kit

It was not a disastrous result really, just a bit disappointing.

Pompey are the best away team in the division and Posh are the 4th best home team. If Bolton take 4 points from those we need to win all 3. If they win both we’re stuffed, but fair play to them if they manage either of those.

You wouldn't have thought it by some of the reactions on here last night

We can be good though. The Portsmouth game we looked organised moved the ball and although not exactly controlling the game we looked dangerous as we do when we let other teams have the ball. Every time we face a team who let us have it we struggle to break teams down by being one dimensional. Everyone knows our game plan is get it wide just stick 2 players on the wide man and you nullify derby. When Gayle came in and we played the fluid 3 of barks nml and Gayle we played in various ways we went through the middle. As soon as Collins comes back in we revert back to the other game plan

But not that consistently good or otherwise we'd have been promoted as Champions by now.

You also didn’t answer about whether you’d watched it. If I’d seen the result I’d probably think ‘solid away point. 3 home wins should do it’. But having watched it I was deflated.

So you've again ignored that the opening premise of my post was we gained a goalless draw away from home tonight.

Yano I would have been reasonably happy with a point tonight before the game but that's just me.

We should be putting in a better performance than that. When we had Gayle we went to various phases of play. Playing it through the midfield and outside. We’ve now gone to everything going out wide again.

Simple but obvious question; why should we?

If we were that consistent then we'd already be promoted as Champions.

As another poster has already said maybe we're just not that good.

No your comment was to have a pop at people making negative comments. The only reason I mentioned the bit you quoted was to make the point that I didn’t expect us to go 12 points out of 12 so it isn’t a knee jerk reaction to drawing.

That performance (second half) is up there with the worst of the season. We were a million times better against Northampton than we were in the second half tonight.

No the first part of my post, if you care to recall, was that we gained a goalless away draw tonight.

I said nothing about our performance yada yada.

If you want to twist this to fit your own narrative then fill your boots.

Horrible that all the pressure is back on us.

Then we have the unsettling matter of Posh and all their matches in hand so we don’t know whether they’re looking good or not.

Personally think Leyton Orient will be tougher than Wycombe. Would feel sick if we missed out on 92/91 points.

It's telling that you use the words horrible, unsettling and sick to describe your emotions at this point in time - would you rather us be in Bolton's position than ours at this stage in the season?

You've already started dwelling on an outcome that may not even transpire.

I remember driving back from Wembley after Fester had done us thinking the world had ended not knowing that we would get promoted later on with a new stadium too.

Try and embrace what's happening at the moment, if we don't go up this season then so be it. As I discovered with the playoff defeat against Fester it's not the end of the world.

Didn't we get the draw, which was sufficient, as a Cardiff win sent Paul Warne's Rotherham down at our expense?

We got relegated at QPR didn't we, before jumping around at Blackpool? 🤷‍♂️

Yes but we had to rely on Cardiff beating Rotherham as the draw wasn't enough for us independently to avoid relegation

Win all four and it won't matter. Wycombe looks to me to be the banana skin we need to avoid. Horrible place, horrible team and the sort of place we struggle at. Win that and my confidence levels of autos will be through the roof.

What odds would you ascribe to that outcome happening

    So....

    Firstly I'm ignoring GD.

If we hold off Bolton, it pretty much means we hold off Posh and Barnsley too.

I'm taking it as certain Bolton win v Bristol Rovers (A), Shrews (H) and Carlisle (H).

If Bolton win their last 5 games, and get 15 points, we need 12 points i.e. we need win all 4 of ours. [Scenario unlikely]

If Bolton win four but draw either Pompey (H) or Posh (A) game, they have 13 points. We then need 10 points - 3 W and 1 D [Scenario possible]

If Bolton lose to either Pompey (H) or Posh (A) but win the other 4 matches, they have 12 points. We then need 9 points - 3W and 1 L [Scenario possible]

If Bolton draw to both Pompey (H) and Posh (A), they have 11 points. We then need 8 points, so either 3W and 1L or 2W and 2D. [Scenario quite possible]

If Bolton draw one and lose one versus Pompey (H) and Posh (A), they have 10 points. We then need 7 points so 2W 1D 1L would do it. [Scenario less likely]

Bolton manage only 9 points, losing to both Pompey (H) and Posh (A). We then need 6 points so 2W and 2D or 1W and 3D would do it. [Scenario unlikely]

I'm not entertaining Bolton getting less than 9 points.

Note: if we have better GD, take one point off each of our points needed total (obviously!)

You didn't actually answer the question 😏
