Let’s start with the pros, as it’s only fair: He’s an intelligent tactician and theoretically astute. He can talk a good game, clearly has a good understanding of the game, feel even though he’s said previously he’s not a student of the game that he understands it very well. I see him as man-manager, emotionally intelligent, albeit not to everyone’s cup of tea (but who is).
cons, for me, as a tactician he sees players on the pitch as pieces on a chest board rather than players looking to develop. He will help players gauge an understanding of the game, evidently he likes to make sure his players are aware and they obviously do their home work. I don’t see him as a technical coach, like McClaren and Cocu, more-so a fitness, psychological coach and that’s where he feels comfortable. It makes his quite stubborn, at times, we’ve all seen that with formations this season. I also feel that he has struggled with the size of the club and the weight of expectation, he’s almost played it off but incorrectly at times. Lastly, in contrast with the above, I believe he is incredibly aware tactically of what he wants to do and how to be successful - I’m just not quite sure he knows how to achieve it with the recruitment required. What he wants, how we recruited were at odds - clearly there was someone compensating so I won’t hammer him as ultimately it falls to the recruitment staff to find the very best players available to us. If he was dead set on three CBs then he needed to add speed and lateral quickness to the wide CBs but instead signed Nelson and Bradley. Doesn’t add up.
Overall, 5/10, the club isn’t really better or worse off. We will get into the playoffs, I’m sure, but without significant improvement it’s a wasted ticket. Philosophically, he sees the game in a lot of ways different to me, but a lot of people do, but it’s the reason why I’m not right behind him currently - like I was McClaren and Cocu.

Performance wise it was much better than we've seen at home. We passed the ball around, looked to open them up and controlled large parts of the game.
I'm no great fan of his, but it's not Warne's fault Mendez Laing can't control a football when clean through from the half way line, not his fault either than Collins' one-game purple patch lasted, well, one game, or that Waghorn did the near impossible thing of missing the goal with that header. Plus one or two decent if not even gilt edged chances.
I don't think Warne could have done anything other than what he did today, maybe Wilson on earlier. Sibley's set pieces were just as woeful as those which went before him.
Fornah and Nyambe look very good signings. I like a defender who likes to defend. Nelson and Cashin starting to form a strong partnership.
The fact is that without McGoldrick we don't have goals in the team, and it may ultimately cost us dear.
Had we won 4-0, few people would have argued that was an unfair scoreline.
Ref was very inconsistent. First half let everything go. Second half totally the opposite, was blowing up for anything and everything, including some very soft ones against us.

I fear us old uns may have a selective memory when it comes to the BBG. Yes, there were some great atmospheres but I’m not convinced all four sides got involved on a regular basis especially in the dark days of the last time we were in the 3rd tier. I suspect, it could be just as flat as PP at times. I also don’t think PP has “always been flat to a point”. You have given one example (Southampton), what about the Brighton play off game? I know that’s only two examples but I’m pretty sure there have been plenty more.

As others have said, the atmosphere is often dependent on the football we are watching, the results and the opposition supporters. Hence why the atmosphere at the City Ground is good at the moment. I wonder what is was like when they were struggling in the Championship or in league 1?

That's the most enjoyable PPS experience I've had this season. Good football, easy on the eye, attempting to pass to each other and keep the ball on the ground led to, surprise surprise, good possession and good chances being created.
Both goals had excellent build up play and great fininshes.
Caveat - it looks like it was a young Lincoln team and other than the last 10 mins, when we just tailed off, looked a little out of their depth. They allowed us far too much time and space on the ball - we won't get that in league games but it would be nice to try and play the same type of football.
Good performances from Wilson and Fornah particularly. Embleton nice and tidy. Sibley and Barks add some quality. Bradley still looked nervous but hopefully tonight will do his confidence some good.
Crowd, 2700. Shame there weren't more to see that Derby can actually play football.

I agree, we were pretty poor at Bolton. They were too (at finishing) but the crowd could see they'd got the ball, there was effort being put in and got right behind them.
There is a correlation here to the other thread discussion about Warne ball versus Rosenior. We got behind the team then because it always felt like we were on the edge of that breakthrough. Now, we haven't got the ball much so we're just collectively holding our breath.
    Or worse.
I've been to every match home and away and there is general grumbling, discontent and some outright abuse.
Even at Burton and Peterborough,  before the goals.

I’ll take your word for it. But at Peterborough for the first part of the game and Bolton, for nearly all of it, it was very quiet. Haven’t been to any others. I didn’t think we’re any better or worse than anyone else.

As I said in another post, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people sitting down in the south and/or clearing off downstairs so early in the first half. There were lots of empty seats around us. It was loud at the start but I think every one just got bored.

Maybe it’s time the west stand started getting involved 😉. On a serious note, at Bolton the other week the singing, while concentrated in the corner, was coming from all three home stands. If one of the other stands started something, I’m the SS would join in.

Boring game between two very average teams. A draw about right.
I’m starting to wonder whether this is the worst derby team since the 11-pointers, which on later it shouldn’t be as we have in our ranks some decent footballers.
However we need to see what Warne can do with a fully fit, or nearly fully fit squad. Hope more than expectation says he will change up to a better, more organised style of play where we can actually see what they players are trying to do. But continue to play this frankly bizarre, shapeless and often amateurish way and even the top 6 will be a challenge.

Atmosphere in the SS is as bad as I’ve known it. Good start bouncing off the Portsmouth fans but just went flat. 10 mins to go in the first half and plenty of people were disappearing downstairs and even sitting down. It just saps the enthusiasm out of you,

I don’t agree with this at all. Plymouth played scintillating football last year. Why can’t we aim to go up playing good stuff?
That’s ridiculous. There were games under Clough that we absolutely played opponents off the park. There were lots of other games where it was boring unfortunately but his brief was ‘keep us in the division, get rid of everyone who earns anything more than peanuts’.

The football when he got Kuqi together with bueno and commons. Unreal. 14 points from 6 games and then an unfortunate drop off of form meant that he was too cautious to continue with that combination of attackers.

Then there was the hammering of Millwall away and the 24 pass team goal for Bryson in the season he was sacked.

In his 5 seasons with us he finished 18th, 14th 19th 12th and 10th whilst always trimming the budget and cutting the clothe. You take that weird 19th finish away and that’s a brilliant example of long term improvement and squad building.
I’d go as far as to say I think that Clough would have had us exactly where other managers had us eventually. The club just panicked with attendances and pushed the button. I’ll always respect the superb job he did. Arrived to a team in free fall with a forest sized squad of overpaid players. Left after guiding us to tenth with a really good hungry squad that only took the ‘shackles being removed’ to absolutely fly.

Well I enjoyed the day out at Bolton (well, a few miles away from Bolton), my first visit to that stadium. Good stadium, setup, home fans were very vocal. Seemed quiet in the away end. Lots of bars and restaurants in the area.
Positives from the game were that I thought we defended really well when under the cosh for long periods, and it took a fluke goal to beat us. Defenders were solid and Vickers made what looked like from the other end a couple of very good saves. I heard some criticism on the radio about players not putting a shift in - from my angle they all gave it 100%. Forsyth and Nelson had good games. Bradley did well other than his ricket. Thought Hourihane had a decent enough game. Fornah looked terrible first half out of position but much better when he was moved back. This is, of course, all in the context of the match and how were set up, if indeed we were set up in any particular way.
I was impressed with how Evatt set Bolton up, they played good football. They lacked a killer edge and looked a little ropey at the back on the odd occasion we tested them, which doesn't quite put them in the Plymouth/Ipswich bracket from last season, but they're a good side who will be up there.
Referee: As some of you know I ref at county league level so may (or may not) be able to offer some insight. He's got the first big decision of the game wrong - he's decided Elder is fouled but given where Derby are should have waited a couple of seconds and given the goal. He's blown far too early and luckily we scored the penalty.
I think that has clearly influenced the way he managed the Wildsmith incident as this time instead of blowing up as soon as he saw the handball he has  waited to see if the Bolton players scores into an empty net. As soon as he doesn't, he blows for the foul. Having indicated a foul, he has made up his mind and the red can come out there as it's deliberate handball stopping an obvious goalscoring opportunity (DOGSO). Given that it's such a big decision, he has a word with his assistant, and he'll be asking him whether he saw anything that would change his mind. If, as it turned out, the assistant couldn't say one way or the other, the ref sticks with his decision. It was actually good refereeing.
Their penalty. Only VAR could say whether it was in or out of the box. We don't have VAR and it looked to me and everyone around me that it was a penalty, so it's hard to criticise too much.
Derby penalty appeals in the second half: The "handball" when the player is falling over and the ball hits his hand is not handball. The rules clearly state that if a player is putting an arm out to stabilise himself and its not deliberate, then it's not handball. The potential penalty when NML tangles with their number 5 was 50/50 - it was both players fighting for the ball but the defender did have his arm at neck height on NML so maybe. But I felt the one on Bradley was an absolute stonewall. Defender not looking at the ball as it comes across and just hauls him to the ground. It was a far more blatant foul than the one we got the peno for. So poor refereeing.
Derby - tactically shambolic. No notable shape or patters of play. Players looked like they weren't sure who was meant to be where. I get why Warne put Bradley on ahead of Cash. I was frustrated second half as we were on the ropes and both Warne and Barker were sitting down and we had no-one standing and organising/encouraging etc. Putting JJ on at the end and not putting him through the middle up against their lumbering number 5, who was always the last man in a 3 and had already been booked, was criminal.
There is a clear pattern emerging this season against teams that play football and I'm afraid there was nothing in that game, against one of the promotion front runners, that convinced me Warne is up to the task. Equally, he is being hamstrung by injuries and yesterday we didn't get the rub of the green, although we certainly could have helped ourselves with some organisation, composure and some time spent in possession of the football. Warne isn't going to suddenly change his mantra, we can only hope though it is more effective when we have a fully fit squad, if that ever happens.
