Because the EFL don't want another "Leicester" to happen.

I agree with you, but I don't think Clowes is specifically looking for a consortium.  I think he is open to any arrangement that brings us forward.  That is not going to be at any cost, but any new or joint investors will need to bring front line added value.
Appleby offers this.  However, if Clowes buys the club, he isn't going to then give him shares on the cheap or at an immediate loss.

I think he is a busy man.. a heavy programme of building and regeneration projects  ongoing.  He may not have time to be involved in the running of DCFC so may need a partner to help him do that. How that partnership plays out is possibly still to be decided. Not the same as saying he doesn't want to own it.

That won't be happening as the EFL will have us under a business plan on exiting admin and those creditors will have something in place, that should we suddenly sell a player for 5 million, they'll be wanting their debt paid down quicker within reason ie you can have 60% to keep the team at the agreed level of replacement for purposes of keeping it a certain standard - avoids defaults on another relegation- but we want the other 40%.  The combined result being we can't blow what will be a very average sized wad available on one player when we need 15.
Shame, but that's Mel leaving gift.

I hope you are having a bit of a laugh here…or maybe you are just being a bit dramatic.

But after months of Administration, club on the brink of liquidation, rollercoaster of new owners, loss of players, etc.
At the moment the club is (almost) back to a place of simply (just existing and getting by).
After all that, your hope for the new owner is to … spend whatever they want without regard?

That’s a heavy sigh from me.

    Finally some truly positive news.
Hopefully everything will now fall into place and we can all look forward to the new season and leave this nightmare behind us.
I like, as has been suggested, that DC is a reluctant owner who has stepped forward only to save DCFC, not as a boost to his ego.
I have pretty low expectations for this coming season and I will be very happy with a mid-table finish with none of the off- field shenanigans of recent times.

The EFL rules for exiting administration are clear, no club shall be deemed to gain an advantage on exiting administration. We have a big fanbase so will have a bigger estimated revenue which means we can afford to offer more under normal circumstances.
The view will be that if we go offering £2m on one player then that money could have been used so creditors could have been paid more, it is a penalty to ensure we don't have an unfair advantage and that while the deal to pay creditors is in place then a restrictive business plan will remain in place but not as restrictive as one with a 15 point deduction thrown into the mix. The EFL won't allow us to pay only 25% then having an open chequebook to sign players.

Coming out of administration you have an agreed business plan, budget. This Is to stop clubs going in to admin, clearing debts and then spending it on players.

That's my understanding too. It makes sense too, in that if I was a local supplier and a club owed me thousands, most of which I won't see, then suddenly months later they're spending millions on players, I wouldn't be best pleased

My understanding is that we get two years of restrictions as part of the adminstration process. This is extended by a year if we go for the 35% over 3 years option.
The reasons are supposedly two fold:
Firstly, to enshrine sustainability into the club restructure. If, for example, we're limited to a 25 man squad with a maximum wage bill of £75k per week, we ought to be able to run at a profit. It will effect income, but we'll be expected to trim unnecessary expenditure to accommodate. Two years down the line and we should look like a stable club, ready for investment to take us forward.
Secondly, it's part of the punishment. It's part of the reaction to Leicester's actions when they wiped most of their debts and new owners came in and 'bought' the league. The restrictions are there to stop 'big' clubs from wiping debts and then outspending everyone else.
As @angieramalluded to in an earlier post, in terms of spending, we are going to be a small League 1 club for the next two to three years. Maybe a genius of a manager could squeeze us into the play offs, but it's staggeringly unlikely.
We need to reign in our expectations and and celebrate still having a club to support.
I wonder if it's possible to patent a Mel Morris dartboard?

Very well put, some are expecting promotion next season already, we won't be allowed any major signings and wages will be capped for 2 years if creditors are being paid 25%. Rebuild and survive next season has to be the objective.

I quite like the idea that we run ourselves much more sustainably and that would imply more financial backing isn't a pre-requisite.
However, I see a big disconnect between what many posters here are expecting in terms of incoming and what a modest rescue package and EFL business plan will allow.
I am thinking of a Bolton scenario, where we have a small young squad and a loyal band of followers who get that it is all going to take time.
I could live with that, I am unsure how many more could. 10,000?
I am not sure how reflective of the active supporter base this forum actually is as all my match-going mates will 100% be there whatever the circumstances. I don't know any floating supporters so don't really know how they are thinking.
