Just my opinion and i'm sure i'll get laughed out of the forum for it but Cocu/Rosenior's brand of football is more boring than Rowett's poohouse tactics.
i don't care if we only have 10% possession if we score 2+ goals a match and can defend competently.

I really don't see the point in rushing to tie Rosenoir down after a handful of games and at best variable performances on the pitch. Haven't we learnt anything as a club?
If he's the cheap option then ok can half condone it but if there's not better managers out there than Rosenoir than I don't know what.
End of day Clowes is going to be the one signing off his payout from his own pocket if it goes Pete Tong or maybe not and we're saddled with a lame duck. Just can't see the urgency.

I wouldnt offer him the job, at least not yet. I'm still seeing similar football to when rooney was here and I dont believe that type of football will get us promotion. He seems a nice guy who talks very well but that dont mean hes a good manager or is going to be. I hope he succeeds with us I really do, i just wouldnt bet on it.

If he goes then I don't mind because, as I've said, I don't think he's yet demonstrated he will be a good manager. He talks the talk impressively, but does he walk the walk? I was grateful to Rooney for his leadership last year but I was also pleased he left because he wasn't a good enough manager on the field. For me there are still too many echoes of Rooney ball, for instance the utterly ridiculous goal kick routines. If Rosenior were to go we would have our pick of a lot of decent managers. I hope Rosenior stays, adapts, and does better as the season goes on, but I'm not yet convinced and I don't want DC to find himself in a position of having to fork out too much in compensation if we find ourselves unable to climb out of midtable. Our goal should be to be challenging. I would wait until much nearer Christmas to see if we are.

Fact of the matter at the moment is that Bird, Hourihane and Smith simply don’t work as a midfield trio. They all want it to feet, want to come short to the ball, want to play it relatively simple and recycle possession. None of them want to make runs, carry the ball, beat a man, and only Hourihane wants to get a shot off. Sibley, therefore, has to start unless Didzy comes in instead for one of them. We’ve only remotely looked dangerous in the games I’ve seen (Oxford, Barnsley and Shrewsbury) when Sibley has been on the pitch. The sooner Rosenior realises this trio doesn’t work the better.

I have done and we're 17th overall in that table for League 1. And funnily enough the team you criticise are higher than us in that same table.
So I have done what you've asked and it still doesn't add any further credence to your argument.

I ask you for a favour - don't take my word for it, refer to @Carl Sagans post summarising the views of Shrewsburys fans watching the game last night. It's very instructive.
And yes there is a common theme in all of those comments. And it's on the basis of last night we are toothless and sterile and we don't create any chances.
And we have lots of possession but that possession is shuffling the ball to our keeper and back constantly and after a point we hoof it upfield anyway. So the possession is totally pointless and has no end result.
But like I said don't take my word for it.

I made the point earlier, one still can comment on what's been served up so far this season as that's the only baseline we have to judge against.
The picture may be different in a couple of month's time, absolutely. But until we reach that point supporters can only draw their conclusions on what they've seen so far, and that's their total right and prerogative.

Despite our dominance we created hardly any chances against Charlton (I would say three decent ones all game) and seemingly three again last night. Stearman's was a bad miss but he's a fourth-choice centre half. Sibley could not have hit his shot any better, but it was an excellent save. There was one more when Hourihane should have shot but played a poor pass to Barkhuizen instead. Three half chances a match is not enough. It might seem like it is because we've become used to such slim pickings over the last few seasons, but the reality is we need *a lot* more chances if we're to climb out of League One. It is not about strikers. Kevin Hector would not score in our team. It's about style of play and team selection.

Creating chances? Not really creating that much are we for all the possession we are having. Maybe 2 or 3 chances a game so far, with probably 1 or 2 of them being decent goal scoring opportunities. We should be getting players into more goal scoring situations, which the current style of play seems to be limiting at the moment.

I see these Cocu comparisons but he was frequently wanting his players to be braver and play faster. Jan - lockdown was as close as we got to his ideas. It also coincided with great performances from Knight and Sibley. But when it was slow it was painful.
My concern is that our general approach for some years now has been very low on chance creation. We got by with Lampard because we had such individual brilliance. Bar the odd spell since we are more concerned with keeping the ball than scoring. It seems we are now taking that to the extreme.
I agree entirely, we have the players to make our life fairly easy in this league. I hope we get Knight out of Rb as soon as possible and actually trust Sibley.

Funny you should say that, i believe both me and you were one of the early ones to show our disgruntlement over Cocu's tenure and i was making the similar connections during my lunch time thoughts. Lets hope its not history repeating itself.

We have the players available to finish in the top 6, even the top 2.
I don't want to get to May and finish 12th.
There will be plenty saying, ''12th?! be thankful you have a club''
I'm sorry but that has been and gone, we will forever be grateful to David Clowes for that side of things.
But that doesn't mean Liam Rosenior, or any manager, should be allowed to take a squad capable of finishing top 6 into mid table.
I really hope it works out, but on current tactics i'm not hopeful and I want to see some improvement to these tactics over the next 10 games.
I was hoping pre season the Interim title would be removed, I'm glad its still in place for now.

Yep. I worry that Rosenior is setting himself up to be Cocu-esque. We've some really good players and football at this level isn't that complicated, don't overthink it.

My concern is we have dropped a division but despite that are only creating a tiny number of chances each game. But that LR is deluding himself into believing we're creating loads of chances and just not taking them. And, because of this, LR claims he is extremely happy with how we're playing. I said before the season that if we were to think about promotion we had to completely change our mindset as a promotion-winning team must score goals. Instead we've stuck with the ultra defensive setup, with two holding midfielders and no midfield support for the striker. It is same old, same old, where we look a little better because the standard of our opponents is worse.
Only watching the RamsTV highlights for Shrewsbury (so it may be wrong) we had 3 OK chances for our 80% match possession. The first and best fell to Stearman who headed wide but this was from a set piece not creative open play and, unfortunately, central defenders are not renowned as finishers or they'd be strikers. Then I would say Hourihane had a very good opportunity, but took the coward's way out and instead of shooting over hit a pass to Barkhuizen meaning the keeper was pretty much on the winger before he could shoot. Finally a ball to the far post reached substitute Sibley who brought it down and hit an absolutely blistering shot which their keeper somehow saved.
In the post match RamsTV interview LR says it was 99% a good performance but he was cross we went long at the end and this was wrong. And we need to keep playing out from the back (the implication being we shouldn't vary this).
It's frustrating because we seem to have assembled a squad capable of being right up there but we're not using the players properly and our tactics are wrong. Only 4 teams in League One have scored fewer goals than us. Everyone else from 15th place up has scored more than us. This is because we are not creating anything like enough chances, which is all down to poor team selection and tactics.

Yes, we can all read the league table. No-one is saying that is the problem.
I think most people understand this season will be a grind and teams will make it difficult for us.
I also think most people understand that we are a work in progress and we’re looking at somewhere in the top half. Top six if we put results together and 7-12th if we just tick along.
It’s not an overreaction. No-one wants Rosenior’s head on a stick. People want him to be more flexible, more adaptable, rather than sticking rigidly and stubbornly to a philosophy that has proven time and time again not to get the best out of us in an attacking sense.
We have a brand new midfield and a brand new front three. New players, yet same old mechanisms. It doesn’t bode well. It doesn’t set the right tone.
If that continues, frustration will only grow. People can accept when other teams are better, but it’s more difficult to accept when we are our own worst enemy.

Spot on. The amount of chances we create is ridiculously low, especially in away games. Therefore, I'm worried about the coming season as well. Fancy, possession based football is absolutely fine, if it includes an idea how we are going to pass the midfield... What bothers me most, is that we finally have some aerial threat in the box and how many crosses we've done during the whole pre-season? Not too many.
I think our ineffective style of play is a valid and analytical reason why Rosenior is only interim manager. I wish he would be success as he is very likable. So was Cocu and I do see some similarities between them.

Across pre-season I see no significant change in tactics from last year. I had been hopeful, but it shouldn't be a surprise given Rosenior did the majority of last season's coaching.
If we don't change we won't score goals and will likely finish lower mid-table. I was pleased Rooney left because, despite being such tremendous a leader of men in our hour of need, the style of play was both negative and poorly conceived, and had to change. I have never seen a team consistently create so few chances. And to be set up to play that way. Not to mention being instructed to continually put ourselves under pressure, to no benefit whatsoever.
At least we still have a club to support, but I'm pessimistic about the new campaign.
