I think what frustrates me about this whole debacle is that some fans and clubs really can't seem to separate us, the fans from how badly the club has been run.
When they ask for Derby to be punished more it is only us, the fans, that will be punished. Basically all the players have left and the owner at the time has gone. When they ask for more punishment like the runts on otib, they literally mean they just want us as a fanbase to suffer. And we 'deserve' it because of some memes and the fact we supported our team when we were nearly promoted.
It's really soured my view of other fans. A lot. And mostly boro, Wycombe, Bristol and Leeds fans.

I hope you are having a bit of a laugh here…or maybe you are just being a bit dramatic.

But after months of Administration, club on the brink of liquidation, rollercoaster of new owners, loss of players, etc.
At the moment the club is (almost) back to a place of simply (just existing and getting by).
After all that, your hope for the new owner is to … spend whatever they want without regard?

That’s a heavy sigh from me.

I suppose I can see your point IF, the reading of the words “we had to do something” implies he didn’t want to, but felt compelled.

But, as always, their are likely many shades of grey to the moving parts on this deal.

I read his comments, and his actions as being: I want to own Derby County (for the sake of ensuring the club is under steady guidance, and progresssing ahead, BUT I’m (DC) no fool. Owning a football club is a tough, mad business. So I’d like to get some other investors in here to soften the risk. And I’d like to get someone else to actually run the operations of it.

I guess I see Clowes as wanting to be able to have a final say on direction, but not have to actually run the club. Which is pretty logical, and makes sense to me.  And to me, says he does want to own the club…just not run it.
So, in the many shades of grey in this deal…we are likely both (kind of) correct. ?

Kevin. Sometimes I greatly agree with your assessment on situations, and other times I shake my head in wondering how you came to a conclusion.

So, this one is a head scratcher, because I’m not sure if I am just misunderstanding you.  Did I miss a statement? Where in any of the reporting has it been indicated that Clowes ‘doesn’t really want the club’?

I hope you aren’t referring to the comment that he is looking for more investing. As that is not indicating that:
    A. He doesn’t want the club.
    B. Can’t afford the club.
    What it is indicating:
He wanted to buy the club. And is happy to take on more investment in order to:
    A. Get more funds into the club.
    B. Reduce risk on a high risk asset.

Read the Clowes statement of last week. It’s indicated he bought the club not out of a desire it own it, but a desire to ensure it does not go into liquidation
“With a deadline looming and the start of next season getting closer, we had to do something”
    There were other, similar comments
Of course that may have been intended to put us off the scent, he may have been planning this for ages. But if so, wouldn’t he have been more aggressive in getting PB status?  Seems to me that what we actually saw was a hiatus which invited Big Mike and Little Andy to make their bafo

People who know him personally have mentioned that he has always said he had no interest in becoming owner, which makes sense, but he had the means and could see the club potentially going into a season without a fighting chance. I think he will get someone in to run the club, he’s fully engaged with his day job, he just hasn’t got the time or the know-how.

Jeez it’s astonishing how some people can grasp the point that’s being made re investors!

    1. Clowse buys the ground and the club with his own cash - this saves the club, gets us out of administration and allows us to start trading, signing players, offering contracts etc.
    2. AFTER he’s the new owner, he THEN need more investors to buy some of his shares off him, reduce his financial exposure, and share the losses. This can obviously take weeks, months or longer. But he’s prepared to stand the losses on his own for a period of time. We don’t know how long that period is, but I doubt it would be more than a year. Because although he’s a fan, he’s not stupid.

Yes, team on the brink, Manager leaving so close to pre-season, and all that.

But Derby County will be playing football with a new chairman, boss, and a trimmed down squad. All without much expectation. They all just get to build, take chances with players/tactics, and let the team grow organically.
That is something I’ve been wanting for a few years now. The team turnover of managers and bloated team sheets have been such a headache for a few years.

Indeed. That is part of my point though. Clowes is not only the new owner of PP, he is (reportedly) the next owner after his paperwork goes through. So, if anyone wants to now buy the club, they need to beat the entire bid (like a standard team purchase negotiation), not the Frankenstein’s monster situation Derby had previous where different entities owned different parts of the club.

Someone else just said it: The new owner of PP will be in the driver seat. And if that was MAs plan…he failed.

Whilst Occam's Razor is a good go to, it's easy to believe in fairies when you consider the things the Club has been through under Morris' ownership.
So A or B or C - I wouldn't bet more than a fiver on any of them.

    or "a bit of both"?
TBH I think it's likely far more B than A, and A probably forms part of B.
It's all rich people stuff though....

Could do. MA could indeed buy the lot of Clowes. It would be odd. Since I thought MA had a good relationship with MM (I could very well be wrong about that).

The simplest answer is usually the correct one.

    A. A convoluted web of deceit and shadow games, between the ultra rich to get one over on the other. All while the team and its assets burn.

    B. Creditors were owed money.  MM wanted money. MA didn’t want to pay that money. Others less well off then MA crunched numbers to figure out how to deal with this mess. One person finally figured out how to do that.

    B is much more plausible.

yes I’m being a bit over the top with the two scenarios-  but still; there are no conspiracies here, just people with money trying to buy an asset for the least amount they need to spend. that process usually takes time and some false starts. ?‍♂️

Also, I’ve seen nothing to suggest MA is offering more. This unattributed rumour seems pretty selective in offering enough to give more to creditors - presumably Quantuma have to agree to drop their fee, and the stadium is someone else’s concern. Smacks of a sound bite designed to sow doubt and confusion.

Truth is, many speculated that MA was going to covertly buy Pride Park off Mel to put himself in the box seat over a takeover - and he’s probably miffed that someone else has done exactly that. Instead of endless press briefing in the margins, he could’ve actually put a bid in. He didn’t. It’d be better for everyone, not least DCFC, if he stopped actively trying to turn us into the kind of basket case business he usually snaps up for pennies.
