  1. Isn't that a spin off series? That character was in another Dutch series about two cops going undercover that I think originally was based on true events around e smuggling. First season was ok but the second was terrible.
  2. Oh wow, that is truly awful news. He was one of the first posters I ever interacted with on this board, and he was always guaranteed to put a smile on my face. I never met him, but I feel like I did, and his positivity in the face of a lot of life's crap that he faced was always inspiring and remarkable. He will be sadly missed and my heartfelt condolences to his family and those of you who knew him personally.
  3. Yep, tagged the wrong person, I meant @Tamworthram After getting the ok from @Comrade 86 we watched The Covenant with Jake Gyllenhall on Amazon Prime last night. Way better than I expected and better than a couple of more recent Guy Richie movies, especially that abomination bank heist movie with Jason Statham playing Jason Statham. This was really well acted, devoid of the usual hoopla and fist-pumping that accompanies anything remotely military from a US director and very enjoyable. Not surprised it had 7.5 on IMDB, I'd maybe even give it an 8. Nigel Callaghan before he hit the pies/10
  4. I thought the movie was dreadful, but it would be interesting to slip into a parallel universe and watch it having not watched BB. If you enjoyed the movie, you're in for a treat with Breaking Bad @Eddie if you watch it. One of the great TV series of all time.
  5. Thinking of checking out The Covenant with Jake Gyllenhall tonight. Has anybody seen it?
  6. The Burial with Tommy Lee Jones and Jamie Foxx on Amazon Prime. Gentle courtroom drama/comedy (in that order) about an old funeral home owner resisting a big chain of funeral homes after they tried to stiff him on buying him out. Based (heavily, it seems if you wait to watch the end credits) on true events and real characters, it was pretty enjoyable and easy to watch with Foxx his usual excellent self and Jones doing exactly what TLJ does. No real surprises, but worth taking a look. Craig Forsyth/10
  7. It was just a bonus that it was his sister and he's from Nottingham.
  8. I think that's fair enough. But sadly, the only Jewish people I know (only 3 tbf) supported at least the initial response. I have deliberately not talked about it since because if they still do I'd just get irritated. I'd be interested in the split between Israeli/Jewish feelings and those of Jewish people elsewhere.
  9. I'm coming into this conversation late without reading the thread because I just want to vent. But what makes the Jewish response any different than if we'd rolled into Ireland after the IRA committed any of their atrocities? A lot of Irish people supported the IRA in the same way as a lot of Palestinians support Hamas or even Hezbollah. But, even if some hardliners on the right would have loved that, it was never ever going to happen. Thousands of totally innocent civilians are dying in response to hundreds of innocent civilians dying. As an independent observer, I struggle to think of any way to justify the actions of either side. I suspect ina dacde Hamas will be even more powerful after a flood of new converts driven to them by the power trying to wipe them out. Maybe I'm naive.
  10. Reptile on Netflix with Benicio Del Toro, Alicia Silverstone and Justin Timberlake. Only gets 6.8 on IMDB and that would normally mean I'd not bother, but the reviews/criticism were for things that don't another me, like 'slow burn' and 'not enough action' I really enjoyed it and Benicio Del Toro was outstanding, easily the best thing I've seen him in. I have NFC where the title came from as there was a distinct lack of reptiles other than what looked like a random shedded snakeskin near the beginning. Good acting with one really laugh out loud unexpected moment and a well-paced script made it worthwhile. A solid Martin Kuhl on one of his better days. 7/10, nudging 7.5
  11. He was way more into opiates than he was coke. And they make you fall asleep. When he wrote his autobiography, he was less than two years clean and had gone that long before. The addict in me hopes it was a tragic accident, but the addict in me also makes me think he relapsed.
  12. Read his autobiography a few weeks ago. Or rather listened to it. It was excellent, but boy did he have a HUGE addiction problem. He came close to dying several times and once chartered a plane he'd just flown in from Switzerland to go straight back and buy more opioids because he'd taken them on the plane. People rarely drown in hot tubs without being either exceedingly drunk or high. My guess is opioids. Such a game for a smart, funny and (to me because I know a lot of people thought he came across as arrogant in his book) nice guy. RIP
  13. Our two waiting for me to hurl the stick.
  14. It wasn't the fart that bothered him but you holding his head down and pulling a duvet over the top of him.
  15. Yep, all I had to do was read the intro on IMDb!
  16. Thought we'd have a break between seasons 3 and 4 of The Sopranoes and check out Bodies. Watched the first episode last night, and it was a bit pants. I've seen too many good series over the last few years that started off poorly, but I'm curious to know what others thought. I think the incredibly mediocre acting after The Sopranoes bugged me the most. Oh, and the final scene when she got out of her futuristic car and the robotic AI voice asked her if she was ok. AI sounds better than that now so I doubt it will be worse in 30 years. A question about Boiling Point. Is it just a remake of the movie, which I thought was great. Or is it a prequel, or just based on the idea? Not sure I want to watch a remake of something I've watched in the last year or so.
  17. Try living in Cornwall! Saw JC in August, and we too have Acastaer and Hall tickets, as well as Ranganathan and Sarah Millican We saw Jonathan Pie on his last tour, and he was very good. He'd not be in my top 20%, but very enjoyable. A number of those (Khan, Gilbert and Campbell) I'm not familiar with as I'm still getting back into UK comedy.
  18. Just got tickets for Anglea Barnes based solely on somebody sharing this clip with me:
  19. I thought Slow Horse was no more than pretty good, but Gary Oldman was phenomenal and it's worth watching just for him. If he doesn't win a BAFTA for that I'll be astounded.
