Abu Dhabi Ram reacted to David in Phillip Cocu, Chris Van der Weerden & Twan Scheepers
Last summer did you have any concerns over the right back position? We only had Wisdom who it would be fair to say hasn't been the same player that we saw under McClaren and some academy player getting minutes.
Fast forward 10 months later and reported interest in that academy player from Brighton, fans are asking for £15m figures if we sell him.
Prior to Lampard's arrival I don't recall many, if any saying Bogle is ready to go, why are we not playing him in the first team.
We're now going into this season believing that academy player is now our first choice right back.
Now I don't for a second believe that every player that comes out of the academy will have the impact that Bogle has, but Sibley for example could be one that does. We've seen Hendrick and Hughes break through at similar times.
We might not need the quantity of signings people are looking for. I get why people are calling for them, as we do need to replace, but we don't know how many replacements we may have under our noses.
Funny thing is you see Forest fans get excited over signing the young keeper from Man City, Muric. Has one first team appearance to his name whilst on loan at NAC Breda. Reason they are excited is it's Man City, must be good right if he's at Man City. Fans get blinded by the club the player plays for, a little like England managers.
If we signed say Billy Gilmour from Chelsea, I'm sure some would be delighted, this kid is going places, real coup. Never played first team football, how much have they seen of him, or is this just based on the Chelsea fan blogs hyping him up. *Cough* Josh McEachran *Cough*
Thing is, we finished above Man City in the Premier League 2 for U23s and our U18s are National Champions after beating Arsenal and finishing above the likes of Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City.
We might have a bit of talent under our noses right here, It's possible Cocu likes what he has seen from Knight, Bird, Whittaker and may feel they can schtep up.
Let's also not forget bringing in a manager with a bit of tactical nous can be worth 15 points in itself, I want to use Bielsa at Leeds as an example, who thought he could turn them into that, even with cheating.

Very good article. It shows that his numbers were amongst the best in the league, just behind Tierney, who is going courted by Arsenal for £20+m.
If we sell him now, I would be annoyed as I was with Thomas. At least Thomas had some undesirable personal attributes that made me think it wasn’t about his ability. Lowe deserves to compete with Malone, Forsyth for that spot in the team. If he comes up short then we sell him.

Our Chrissy has played a role in 3 out of 4 Pre season goals so far. Anyone suggesting he has no place in the squad for this year needs checking.
He might not score bagful and might not be the fastest, but we've got 6/7 attacking players (possibly more counting midfielders) that thrive off layoffs to take shots from 20+ yards.

But the local cinema hasn't got the real life drama and real highs and lows of sport.
Points aren't secondary at all. They're just as important. When I pay money to watch games I hope to have a decent balance. Good football and losing is no good, boring football and winning is no good either. I want good football and winning. I accept the level of the club and that it's not possible but I do expect to see it tried.
I love boxing. But you get many fights where one guy comes to spoil it. He knows he stands little to no chance of winning and he just wants to survive. He runs and clinches. Nobody watches boxing to see that. But it's part of that game. A fight with one fighter. It's common. It's not boxing snobbery to expect two guys to have a go. The sport would die without it's entertainers.
I do agree football snobbery is a thing. I'm just saying for some people they just want to see the sort of skillful passing and moving you won't see a likeness of on any park. Because money and time aren't limitless and they don't want to spend both on a game they aren't excited by.
I'm glad you brought Rowett up. I never liked the bloke but I've agreed with much of what you've said about him. He didn't play hoofball and it is a bit of snobbery to say he did. Although some people know he didn't but just don't want to give him any credit.
Rowett encouraged some of the best passing you will see in this league from Huddlestone. Like you mention Beckham. 1 pass doing what would take Man City 15 to do. 1 pass that me and you couldn't nail in 30 attempts.
My problem with Rowett was just that his team would sit back to counter attack even when it didn't suit the game. He'd do it when we were losing or were at home and the other team had no intention of coming at us. I just thought there's no future in this. That if we did get promoted that everytime we go 1-0 down the game would be over because he'd still insist on playing like we are 1-0 up.
So many games were boring because we took no risks and waited for someone to attack us.
I've seen more exciting 0-0 games than some of our wins in that season. I've come away feeling entertained and excited by the future in games we've drew than some we won under him. Wolves away was the final straw. Defended a losing position!
That's why I would put Lampard over Rowett. Less points and goals etc. But he made an attempt to play attacking football and be exciting. We were more vulnerable and more naive but the games were more entertaining imo. Not massively so. That's why I put Mac above both.
There were and probably are people on the forum that used to say you can't get promoted playing pretty football. It's been done. You can have your cake and eat it.
You just have to remember that some days you'll lose whatever style. You can't win all the time and you can't play pretty all the time. But I hope to see Derby try to do both whenever they can.

I’m happy where I am thank you, I have no interest of attaching myself to a big club just to see my team win week in week out.
I want to see my club, Derby win week in week out, lift cups, trophies and I’m happy to dedicate my life support to that, even if we fail to reach the top.
As I say, if I ever lose that desire to see Derby in the Premier League, competing in Europe and just want to be entertained at the weekend I will walk away from football, I won’t just transfer myself to another club.
I’m 30 odd years deep into this now, there’s no going back.

If you're just wanting to enjoy associating yourself with winning go support a glamour team.
we all know there's far more invested in it than that. Winning is important, of course it is, but it's not the whole. A team you can be proud of, a team you willingly give you love to, a team that entertains and satisfies.
winning just by knocking lumps and scoring from set pieces ultimately isn't that satisfying, but a team that loses all time isn't either.

Are we selling him? All I've seen is Aberdeen, Rangers and now Celtic are interested in signing him loan/permanent. I haven't seen a quote suggesting we want to sell.
Back in January Frank said "Max is very much our player and remains in our long-term plans, but we felt for his long-term development it was important for him to continue to get regular first-team matches”. With Lowe continuing to improve in the second half of last season, I can't imagine that view has changed unless there was an offer for him too good to refuse.
Abu Dhabi Ram reacted to Jimbo Ram in Max Lowe
He looked awful here and has looked decent in a sub standard league, 2 or 3 levels below the Championship. I would be quite happy to sell for 500-750k, not sure we will get much more than that. We need better if we want to push on and get out of this league....

My feeling is that too many are far too quick to right players off on the basis of a couple of under par performances. Seem to remember loads of (unwarranted) flack for Bogle last season now he's worth 15mil plus. Lowe has proved himself in Scotland and I'd like to see him integrated into our first team in the coming season. Possibly, just possibly, we'll then have another seven figure asset.

I know this isn't anyone's fault. We can literally do nothing about it..
I wanted Lampard to stay. Loved last season and the connection with the fans, players and staff. I wanted stability and for Lampard to build something.
Number one choice for me is Jokanovic. Absolute stand out. He won't be available for long either. Could cost too much. Probably wants some funds for transfers too. I'd be excited with Jokanovic.
Hughton, Karanka, Darren Moore. I'd be happy with. Think they could do a good job.
Simpson is a no for me. Been here under Stevie Mac.
Please god nobody mention Stimac.
McClaren, Rowett, Pulis, Moyes, Allardyce, Hughes, Pardew, Wasall. Any of them and my season ticket is going back.

I'd like someone who really cares about Derby County and just doesn't see it as a stepping stone to a bigger club with a bigger salary. I'd like someone with excellent people skills, who nurtures and develops young academy players and is able to carry on with style of football we have been playing this season.
