That celebration irks me. You had a good game today Sonny and the fans were right behind you. Doesn’t change the fact you got yourself stupidly sent of 3 games ago, potentially jeopardising our promotion push. Fans had every right to be annoyed.

Looks tidy enough in this division, but I think you're right. Not sure whether he's quick enough, as I've only seen him a couple of times, but at Championship level I suspect he'd struggle to look so effective.

Max is really skillful, but doesn't impact the game enough. I've always thought the best he can do is to be like Michael Carrick, who was very good at what he did, and a lovely passer, but didn't reach the very highest level because he couldn't shoot or tackle. And that's Max.
Today he had a great shooting opportunity, but is not a natural shooter and scuffed it. He ran the entire length of the field with the ball (not helped by Ward's aimless run), but then didn't know what to do with it. He made one tackle in the entire match. He needs to constantly demand the ball - to be our quarterback - but he doesn't get very involved. Today he only touched the ball 33 times. I think it was an error by Warne to try to turn him into a number 10 pre-season, and to keep pushing him forward, when he is never going to score goals. Would be much better off learning to play the holding role better.
If he's reading this, I'm sure he knows it too, and I'd urge him to try to dominate the game in future. Shout for the ball and always make himself available. But if we're lucky enough to get a decent bid (anything into 7 figures), right now I don't feel it's worth hanging on to him. Brutal I know. I can understand the arguments for keeping Cashin, and Max should be playing at the same level, but he doesn't seem to be.

MauritianMonsta reacted to Carl Sagan in Its like Clough all over again...... Bored Stiff Today!
Agree very much with the original post. Clough did some great things, but wasn't capable of taking us further and his football was oh so dull. Crowds were going through the floor. Warne has shown he's not capable of taking us forward either, and again his football is dull. Attendances are going to plummet unless something can be done. It's not too late to bring someone (Mac 3 would be great) in who can take what I maintain remains a reasonably talented squad, and turn us into a team that's good to watch and will win automatic promotion. 90-95% of managers could do at least as well as Warne with these players.

Before you slate me, Clough had a talented team, he was too negative, Stevie Mac turned us into an attacking outfit overnight!!!!  That's not the issue with Warne as we were camped in their half for large spells of the game, that said I was bored stiff today, just like Cloughs football.
I felt like going home at HT, I stayed obviously, the footie got worse not better, we just can not seem to brake teams down that come for a draw!
Stevie Mac part 3 anyone?  The football was never boring, it had us on the edge of our seats............

MauritianMonsta reacted to SK47 in I Feel As Fans, A Lot Of Us Have It Wrong.
After watching Paul Warnes Cambridge interview regarding the Josh Vicars situation, I can't help but feel we have it wrong about what we value in a manager.
I understand football is about results and success, but sometimes, seeing a managers humility and connection as a humanbeing with the players, especially at times of trauma, beats the lot for me.
I've been critical of Warne, as have a lot of us, but I would love nothing more than for Warne to get us promoted. I know his "let's be mates" mentality can be a bit cringe, and his 352 does your head in, but you can tell he really cares about those around him, and I would much rather be in the trenches with a man like Warne than someone coming here for a quick cheque.
I'm crossing everything that things go right on the pitch, but regardless of that, I just wanna commend him for the person he is.

    Salute to you Mr Warne.

    Copied over.

Hands are tied behind our backs because we offered Warne a nice juicy contract to tempt him to join our club. As much as I can't stand the football being offered, I believe we have little choice other than to keep him until the end of the season unless we fell well away from the top 6. I also believe Warne seems to be the type of chap who would walk away from a job if he felt he was not delivering his aims.

I personally don't like his recruitment policy of buying older players on bigger contracts. I've seen it too many times over the years where we've bought too many twilight career footballers and feeling more disappointed when they are not performing well. The balance of the squad doesn't look right to me. The best teams I've always seen have a good blend of youth, prime and experienced players. We have too many over or approaching 30. I've never believed in the "experience buys promotion" idea. Has it ever worked for Derby in the past? It only seems to result in a bloated wage budget and not being able to shift people along.

The Waggy situation has annoyed me and provides more doubts about PW. I'm really glad the player is back and we are lucky to have brought him in after what happened originally, our manager outright dismissing him at the first opportunity. It makes me wonder how many good players have we may have missed out on because Warne prejudged their character. To say he's a people person, why would you flat out refuse a player of that calibre and not speak to them about their situation. That fortunate piece of luck has already saved the manager from more criticism.

Ultimately he just isn't the manager for me. I can completely understand why our owner went for someone like Warne. On paper he's a great fit. Unfortunately now we've digged deeper into his playing style, tactical (or lack of) knowledge and recruitment policy, I don't think he is the right fit for the club.

Sign me up. The best football we've played in years, took the game to whoever we were playing, no matter who it was. As @hintonsboots mentioned, it could be argued he lacked a plan B quite often, but I'll take a manager who at least has a plan A over the current manager's approach.
I reckon we've got the players to have a decent 4-3-3 setup as well, provided we avoid a lot of injuries to wingers. And I'd love to see how someone like Sibley would do in a much more attacking team with a bit more freedom.

A couple of obvious points so far: Warne has admitted to mistakes in the January transfer window, not watching enough club games which aren't involving our first team, and not using enough academy players last season.
It was obvious to almost every fan that we needed more depth last season. Woth the small squad and no signings, it should have been obvious to use the academy too. Only for him to state in the summer that the squad suffered from burn out.
On the evidence so far this season, he hasn't learned from those lessons.

I think back to the playoff semifinal away at Brighton. We knew that we were light years ahead of them. Yes they had a nice new ground with comfy seats and guest ales, and yes they scored first, but we never doubted we would overcome them. We did and then some. If you'd told me then what our relative positions would be now, I'd have thought you'd lost your mind.
Brighton are one of several very well run clubs with great planning and business models who have risen up the leagues and are now established in the Prem. Of course they had some luck when it was needed, something we have fallen down on. But sometimes you make your own luck. If you're Eirin Cashin and you have the chance to go, and to try to prove yourself in the top flight, and an opportunity for the riches a club such as Brighton can now offer, you jump at it in an instant. You'd be mad not to. For our sake, I love watching Eirin for us and hope he stays and we can rise up through the leagues together. The way he plays all over the pitch even reminds me of McFarland, sometimes on the left wing! I'm not suggesting for even a nanosecond he's at that level, but equally I scoff at anyone who believes he's already reached his ceiling. What madness is that?
