  4. Seen Derby play at 55 league grounds, all prior to 1980, plus Wembley for our Charity Shield victory, with old Wembley and Hampden Park for England internationals, and new Wembley for our 2007 play off win. Cycled to see Derby at the Baseball Ground, then away games at Notts County, Lincoln, Stoke (and another postponed after setting out!), Rotherham, Huddersfield, Walsall, Coventry, Northampton and Luton, all in the early 1960s. Also rode to Florist's ground to see Stanley Mathews play one of his final games for Stoke. And by rail or air to five of the European / UEFA Cup games away, plus the away Anglo French Friendship Cup game in 1962 versus A S Bitteroise of Beziers.

  7. Thanks for the correction. I was working from the initial version (1984) of the Derby County The Complete Record from Breedon Books, and having checked the figure in both the 1988 and 2009 editions, your figure is confirmed. Presumably the error was identified and corrected for the 1988 edition, and there were other amendments made which appear to correct typos and misreadings, but a small number of less logical entries were also identified. A brief check of the 1971/72 Championship attendances also indicate similar adjustments have been made in the 1988 edition.
  8. Remarkably relegated Carlisle did not lose nor concede a goal to Derby that season - won 3-0 at home and drew 0-0 at the BBG.

  11. Nearly made 1951 ! My first game was to have been v Man City away on 5th Jan 1952, but went down with appendicitis between Christmas and New Year, ending up in hospital and having the appendix removed.... Rams lost 4-2 . First game ended up being Fulham away, 1st May 1952, where we lost 3-0. Notables that day were Bert Mozley, Reg Harrison, Tommy Powell, Jackie Stamps, Johnny Morris, Jack Lee and Jack Parry (deceased 2023).
  12. Excellent synopsis @Rampant! Although I had watched the Rams from 1952 I did not get to the August 1953 game, and subsequent away defeats to them, until seeing our first (league ) win at Eastville on 11th November 1961, a -4-1 victory courtesy of a Keith Have hand hat trick and one from Peter Thompson, attendance 10622. Thanks for jogging the memory!
