It’s the intransigents on both sides that are the problem.
The Leavers who say “we should just get on with it – we voted leave”, and refuse to consider any evidence or facts
The Remainers who say “we should remain – all leave voters were misled/racist/stupid”.
The latter’s arrogance only drives the former’s entrenchment
I’ve been attacked by hardcore remainer friends for daring to suggest that (despite me voting remain) I’d happily leave the EU if there was a deal that meant the drawbacks were offset by new positives.
The truth of the result was that almost half the country voted to remain and just over half the country voted to leave.
We need to encourage people try and empathise with those that voted the opposite way to them. Without that we are going nowhere

Watched a speech Dominic Cummings gave back in 2017. Don't ask for the link, I haven't got a clue how to do it.
Cummings spoke about the strategies used by the leave campaign he head during the referendum. He stated  how they targeted voters with specific advertising that didn't have anything to do with the EU. That they targeted people who were feeling disenfranchised not just by the government but by anyone they deemed to have power over their lives. People who were unhappy with the long period of austerity and having to pay for the financial crash, while seeing the bankers who caused it, still living the good life.
So the the leave campaign implied that if you voted leave, you were also getting one over the establishment.
The funny thing is, is that the establishment, the billionaires the rich bankers, who these targeted leave voters thought they were voting against, were the very people who were bankrolling the leave campaign.
As a lot of people are now realising, it's the billionaires and rich bankers who will be the only ones to benefit from brexit.
So much for, as the Americans would say, sticking it to the man.

Chasing 194 in 35 overs they were 20 for 4 but recovered to win by 4 wickets with 2 overs to spare. To add to the accomplishment the lad who was verbally abused on camera at Nottm train station last year by a Forest idiot scored 43 not out off around 36 balls to win us the game.

Everyone is so entrenched now that it is virtually impossible to have a sensible reasoned debate. I have to say the Leavers are GENERALLY the worst for it. Treating the referendum as if it was a football result and any debate is an unsanctioned VAR. We are now at the point that people think Boris is a good PM and has a chance of getting a deal by 31 October. Utterly deluded. We have stopped looking at facts and thinking logically.
To even this up as a Labour Party member we have too many with delusions that Corbyn is a good leader and can (in normal circumstances) win an election. We are now in the worst political crisis since 1940 with the worst political leaders in living memory. However with all the crap I have read  from the British public over the last few years we deserve to be in this mess.

Except an election would just be a proxy referendum anyway.
I think Corbyn’s plan is the most pragmatic approach available.
We’ve pretty much all agreed at various points on this thread that Cameron should never have called the referendum based on such an open ended idea of leaving, and with no clear achievable plan of how to leave the EU (because he banked it all on Remain winning)
So if the pledge is to go back to the drawing board and come up with a Withdrawal agreement that can command a majority and can be clearly articulated to the public exactly what “leave” means – then a second referendum would be precisely what the original referendum should have been.
Not sure why Leave voters would have a problem with this approach – in theory Leave should win by an even greater margin if it can explain the leaving process in real detail rather than just populist gut feelings and anger driving the vote
