Fair points, it's just the fact he wasn't gonna commit to a new contract. Makes me question how committed he is going to be from now until the end of the season. Really hope he proves me wrong and goes out on a high as he's a player I really like and rate. A player that in an ideal world we would be building a Championship team around.

Not too sure that I see it as being shrewd. I'd rather we make a clean break if the lad doesn't want to commit to us and sign a new deal. Feels a bit like splitting with your missus and still living in the same house. Awkward.
