Really odd one for Bird. Knight must have sold Bristol City to him. Otherwise I can’t see why he wouldn’t wait until the summer and see which option is the best.
He clearly doesn’t feel any strong feeling for Derby anymore, otherwise you’d think he would have waited to see what league we’re in then signed a new deal if we got promoted.

How long does he have left on his contract?
Also where has the fee of a couple of million come from? Perhaps if Peterborough are becoming desperate to not lose him for free and there’s not the interest they expected, it might be a much smaller fee than most expect.

I can’t imagine they have an issue with him playing against them unless they genuinely feel they can make the play offs.
It makes me wonder if there’s something daft in our business plan and this is a work around on it. 
 
edit - just seen he can play Charlton so must be the latter. 

Presume the loan is purely because Charlton didn’t want us to have him playing against them twice next month?

The issue was never crossing. Crossing can work.
The issue was the lack of plan B. Some teams have just stuck two banks of six foot tall lumps behind the ball, who can just head and kick it away all day. We've struggled to break them down.
The problem with those games was that we didn't seem to have any other ideas. The Lincoln cup game seemed to be the turning point, where we remembered we can actually play through the middle if needed.
Football isn't a "one tactic fits all" affair, teams need to actively problem solve to get goals.
That's changing for the better now. Credit to the coaching and playing staff.

I am fully prepared to admit I am/was a Warne doubter. Things have changed, which I didn't think they would.

Yes, of course. Because it was and always has been about results and performance. I don't like sprouts but if they suddenly started tasting like chocolate cake I may be inclined to revise my dislike of them.
I am still a long-termist, and I don't believe that what this team was doing under Warne at the start of the season and pretty much all of last season works, and nor do I believe it to be the key to success. Warne however, to his credit, seems to have huge willing to change things that don't work, against everything he had planned on doing. Almost no other football manager I've ever seen does this. Managers and coaches are generally "pigheaded" for want of a better phrase and believe so strongly in their vision that they will double down in the face of failure. Just look at Ange Postecoglou at Spurs who recently spoke about this and said that he will stick to his guns no matter what. If it gets him the sack, then he just wasn't the guy for the job. That mentality is common with football managers and is largely where my doubts about Warne stemmed from.
But he has changed it. We move with far more tempo, play through the middle a little more, mix up our play going long and short at different intervals to find a way to win. I don't know whether it is encouraging for a football manager to be so free and easy with their philosophy and have the ability to say "OK, I got it wrong. We're going to chuck a lot of this in the bin and go back to the drawing board", or whether a manager should stick to their vision no matter what.
Postecoglou described it as a lose-lose situation for a football manager. If fans are calling for a certain change, and you cave to that pressure, you will not get the credit if it goes well. If it goes badly, then you will have sacrificed your philosophy at a cheap price and you will still get the sack. Better to stick to what you believe in and fall on your sword, no?
Regardless, Warne deserves the credit for turning it around and changing things. I will grant him that because it is his credit to have. Takes a lot to swallow your pride and change your mind. However, he also shares the blame for having it wrong in the first place, and the question has to be asked what he will do next if what we are doing now stops working. Will he switch it up again? Can he make the necessary tweaks if it's not something he necessarily believes in? Can he get the players to buy in if it is crystal clear that he hasn't even fully bought in?
Ok look...I'll cut a long story short.

Seriously booking NML? There were 2 Wigan fouls in the build up that were certain bookings. 

For what it’s worth, I was recently lucky enough to spend some time with David Clowes.
A really great guy who loves everything Derby County. I can imagine being that involved can soon take away the love, but absolutely no sign of that.
He said a few things that I’m not going to share as it’s not really my place, but hopefully the below gives you an idea of what he’s thinking. 
He said he’s still expecting/aiming for top 2. He doesn’t think it’s unrealistic and thinks our squad is as good as anyone else in the league. 
He said that Warne needs to build his team still. Another two transfer windows before he can be fully judged as ‘his’ team. 
Obviously the above would probably change if we lose the next 5 games, but if we’re hovering around the playoffs for the rest of the season I think he will give him until at least 10 games in to next season (just my opinion of course!).
