Ahh…the Old Bell Hotel is the actual birthplace of Derby County FC…back in Sept 1883 Derbyshire CC Club held their meetings there…
Cricket Treasurer: “We’re forked gentlemen…Racecourse people want to alter the back-straight so we’ve got to move the cricket pavilion. It’ll cost £2000 …and as thee knows we’re already £2000 Guineas in the red at the bank…”
    <gasps all around>
William Morley <checks his pocket watch…it’s 20:24> “The answer is quite simple gentlemen …Let’s start a football team…Notts County charge 1d entry & regularly pull in crowds of over 800…”.

For those of you who have been to fratton park before, you'll find a complete transformation of the away end now.
It's been transformed and now has safe standing, plus you can now buy alcohol, which up until a few months ago was prohibited.
Fair play lads, you've sold your allocation, so look forward to 2,000+ rams adding to a great atmosphere.
The match is a complete sell out, so crowd should be aproching 21,000

A lot of grave resurrection and dissection went on their as the surgeons used to undertake training in Amen Alley just next door a few hundred years back.  Runs by the side of the Cathedral.  Jorrocks down the road at the bottom of Irongate is very haunted.  They had a skull behind the bar for years that was dug up in the cellar.  It was a regular for the Jacobites just before it went tits up as they headed out of Derby and I believe someone broke their standard just outside in a bit of drunken revelry which was deemed a bad omen.  Most definitely a Derby pub however, so probably not the best choice before or after match.
Cathedral is actually quite nice and is the second largest church tower in England, but not quite York Minster.  Bess of Hardwicks tomb is in there.  St Marys church just up the road was Pugin designed, the only church he ever designed  and it does actually look like the Houses of Parliament.

I've been to Derby a few times (non football) and yes, the oldest pub in Derby, I've been in there. Is it also the most haunted pub in Derby too? As for the result, we are the most unpredictable team in the division. We still have an outside chance, but we will have a great time regardless win or lose.

If you like history/architecture may I suggest that you have a look at the houses that make up Railway Terrace adjacent to the Brunswick Inn just along from Derby Railway Station. They were built by Stevenson and designed by Francis Thompson in 1840’s; the whole chebang only survived the wrecking ball with 20 minutes to spare - the Council wanted to flatten the whole lot and build a flyover - but were saved by Derby Civic Society taking out listed status and turned up to stop the demolition with literally 20 minutes before it was due to start. In fact Derby Station and the Midland Hotel opposite were also Stevenson and Thompson creations. Derby Station is a tri-junct where 3 mainlines meet. It made Derby the centre of the railway world; and notably the original plan was for Notts to be the centre but those Nimbies turned it down feeling it would besmirch their fair city - 🤷‍♂️ I know. Anyway, enjoy your time. I’ve had 2 great away days in Blackpool in the last 2 seasons so hope you do too - apart from the result of course.

My mates and I used to buy Fun Snaps from Alfs joke shop, round the corner from Duckworth Square.
Then we'd lean over the car park level wall, and throw them down at people on the ground floor below, hoping to hit them on the head and duck back down.
Hours of fun, until I hit a skinhead full on the bonce, and he and his mates immediately pelted for the stairs up.
We had to take the stairs down, just beating them to the exit, then they proceeded to chase us halfway back to Spondon before they eventually gave up.
Easily in our top 3 chases, alongside the fuzz chasing us through Stoney Cross for lighting a fire under the ropeswing and swinging through it, and the mad bugger who lived in the flats, and would ask us to wait while he put his trainers to chase us for door knocking.

My second trip this season to your great club, but this time I'm treating my Mrs to a couple of nights in Derby.
We are staying in a hotel 5 minutes walk from the ground, but we will be doing the tourist bit and was wondering if any of you good Derby folks could give us some good places to visit and any welcoming pubs too. We are late 50's, so no skate board parks or teeny bopper boozers please.
Thanks in advance and see you Friday 😄

Countryside is lovely...not so much in March though. Enjoy.

It wasn't particularly that we lost on Saturday, which is obviously very disappointing, it's the fact that moving into this game and beyond, we just barely have a functional squad to call upon. Trying to pick a team for this is so difficult. Sibley needs to be utilised further forward, CBT needs to start. Hourihane needs to be dropped entirely. Ideally don't play Waghorn. Beyond that, I have no idea. Of course, it's unlikely he will even do half of that.

On point 2) about desensitising the players. Literally the only positive I can find in us signing Dads Army players is they are experienced and some of them experienced at a far higher level than this, point 2 shouldn't apply. We cannot be blaming the opposition with limited resources compared to us, they'll do whatever they need to do and we need to adapt or stay in this league for the foreseeable. Only got ourselves to blame for missing a golden opportunity on Saturday to extend the gap and put the pressure on others. We were bloody awful in what should have been one of our lesser remaining games.

1Wildsmith 6 Nothing to do but pick the ball out of the net. Struggled kicking both into and with the wind.
    35Nelson 7 Steady.
5Bradley 4 Looked uncomfortable from the start, mis-controlling ball, trying to avoid heading it. Was he even fit to start? Definitely not fit at the finish. Plonker!
    6Cashin 7 Steady
2Wilson 7.5 Looked to create. Feel bad that the goal came from him being robbed of the ball, however it should have been a foul.
32Adams 6 Worked very hard (he had to) but also struggled with the ball on this pitch. Missed a good chance.
12Smith 6 Felt for Smith as he has been playing well. By the time he came on the whole team was jumpy and had lost shape.
4Hourihane 5 Didn't look interested for first 25 minutes then put in a bit of effort. I thought Bird was the sideways and backwards merchant? Watch Hourihane back and he gave a masterclass.
17Sibley 5.5 Thought he was doing okay until he got booked. Created Waggy's chance. Should have been moved further forward when Elder came on as he wasn't the worst player on the pitch.
    20Elder 6 Did okay.
23Ward 6.5 Lively when he came on, good crosses but by then we'd lost all confidence to get on the end of them. Obviously not fully fit.
10Waghorn 5 Deary me, Waggy. Got to do the simple things better, Lacked pace, didn't hold up the ball and as for that miss!
16Thompson 6 I thought Tommo was bright when he had got hold of the game. Looked to be positive and created runs inside. Needed more players on his wavelength.
27Blackett-Taylor 6.5 Played well when he came on, though his best game in a Derby shirt so far. He has more about him than we've seen so far.
11Méndez-Laing 6 Looked tired and a bit frustrated playing inside. Not much room for him to get out wide.
14Washington 5 I only noticed him because he kept getting flagged offside. His fault or ours for being too slow with the pass? We don't play that way so we aren't very good at it.
Warne - down to the bare bones, I think there were several players carrying knocks and a little unwilling to risk getting more. That suited a high-pressing, physical Northampton team down to the ground (or should I say pitch - it was dreadful!) Ref was too. Throw in the swirling wind and it was a perfect recipe for a dismal defeat that felt worse because we expected so much more. Warne could have at least tried keep those few energetic players we have got on the pitch but his substitutions and the second half shape seemed totally random to me.

Four billion years from now, the increase in Earth's surface temperature will cause a runaway greenhouse effect, creating conditions more extreme than present-day Venus and heating Earth's surface enough to melt it. By that point, all life on Earth will be extinct.

I actually think that sounds more appealing than our perennial final inning’s collapse. Roll on oblivion.

If we play anywhere near like we did Saturday for the remaining games then we'll be a league 1 team again next season. I hope with Collins returning we can patch together a team that starts scoring and gives us half a chance.
