Agreed. FFP is clearly not fit for purpose. But parachute payments piss me off the most.
They’re clearly meant for paying off premier league contracts. So why is it so difficult to put that money in a separate trust account to be used for that sole purpose.
Instead they’re used to buy yet more players on premier league wages in a desparte gambit to get straight back up. If the gambit doesn’t work, they’re in an even worse financial position. Villa would have been buggered if they hadn’t scraped promotion at the last chance.
And that all has the side effect of skewing the market in the championship and other clubs without parachute payments having to overspend and breach ffp and put themselves at risk to be even slightly competitive.
It just pisses me off that it would be so easy to govern. Parachute payments in trust account. Done. Easy. Peace in the Middle East overnight.

I wasn’t there so can’t really judge but I imagine a lot of this was frustration, having seen the entire first team rested for Forest because they aren’t fit enough to play 3 times in a week / to rest them ready for the big league game on Saturday, only to find us 3-0 down after what sounds like a spineless performance. After the forest team selection they needed a good result to justify it but came nowhere near. Maybe this led to the boos and shouts.
I for  one liked Lampard playing proper teams in the cups. Gave us some great nights out, put money in the bank, raised the profile of the club and the players didn’t exactly look tired on that run in at the end of the season. McClaren did the same with his team selection at Leicester and it took all momentum away from the season. Play your proper team and try and win it or what’s the point.

A half decent job? In 2016, we were dumped out of the European Championships by Iceland in the first knockout round. In 2014, we finished bottom of our group at the World Cup.
Southgate has been in the job since September 2016 and we've got to back-to-back semi finals and he has restored pride and a feel good factor into following the national team. Give the man more credit. He's not perfect but he has made a world of difference.
You say he should be more tactically astute and getting more out of the players at his disposal, but we've had managers in years gone by do so poorly that qualification for tournaments wasn't a given and there were question marks over whether we could even beat the likes of Sweden and Colombia in major tournament scenarios. When you consider where we have come from, it is way too soon to expect us to be reaching finals and winning tournaments.
You say we have one of the best squads in world football and some top young players coming through, but I think you are being generous with that. Five or six other countries could make exactly the same claim.

So, all give your pets an extra fuss, and if they look confused, tell them it’s from Mostyn.
I was peacefully doing my ironing about an hour or so ago, by the window, that overlooks a busy Grampian Way in Sinfin. I heard a thud, instinctively looked out of the window to witness a dog running into moving traffic.
Suffice to say I’ve shed tears a few times since seeing it. The car behind stopped, and the absolute gentleman driving it tried what he could and showed genuine love for the dog he probably didn’t know.
After he carried it off the road and gently placed it on the lawn beside the road, the owner appeared with the lead in her hand, witnessing her reaction will live with me for a very long time, as will seeing the driver, totally blameless, who hit the dog, but stopped around the corner as his kids were in the car.
After about ten minutes, the lady owner said goodbye to her dog before collapsing trying to lift the dog wrapped in a blanket, before being pulled away by someone, and the real true gentleman, who i dont know, but admire greatly, gently wrapped the dog a bit more snugly in the blanket and carried it to a car.
Owner and driver totally inconsolable. A lovely dog gone just like that. 🥺😞

I don’t get why people are justifying his team selection because he put out a similar team at Scunthorpe.
We didn’t play particularly well that night and were fortunate to win in 90 minutes. To put it in context Scunthorpe have just been relegated to League Two and only have 1 point from their 5 league matches. They like Huddersfield (the only other team we’ve beaten this season) are at rock bottom.
To put a similar team like that out against our local rivals and away at a team from the same division is wrong and it is disrespectful to the fans that paid to watch it (I did). You could actually say that we played a stronger team against Scunthorpe because at least we had a striker (Marriott) in the side. I feel like Cocu didn’t set out to win. Playing Holmes at RB when he was arguably our most creative player in the team was a mistake imo.
Yes Forest made changes but they still had arguably their best player (Lolley) in the team and a couple of other experienced first team players too.
I don’t get this “it’s only a cup game in August” and “we’re never going to win it anyway” stuff. Ajax were seconds away from the Champions League Final last season (upsetting the likes of Real Madrid & Juventus on the way) but they had to qualify for the tournament in August. Should they have not bothered either?
I’m not saying that the league cup is as important as the Champions League but you should aim to win every match, whatever the competition. That is what I want from my team.

Still quite pricey I think but at least it’s a positive step:

Blooding youngsters is great. Just not all at once. And yes it's competitive. It's a CUP game. It's FOREST. Not just in my head. So if we play a stronger team they will all get injured? These are professional players. Why is Keogh not playing? Where was the creativity last night. It could have been 10-0. It was a stupid selection and we got what we deserve. This was Cocu's big mistake so far this season. He did not take this match seriously.

I think after that team selection he deserves criticism. I’m sorry but you don’t play a whole changed team against Forest. It’s a competitive match! Why is Keogh on the bench? We lost that match before the start. We could have given ourselves a good cup run like last year or at least had a chance. Yesterday that selection was awful and disrespectful. What does it achieve? Youngsters get game time but this could have been done cleverly over the whole season. We aren’t guaranteed to win the next match. More often than not a result like this will affect the team negatively.

Millwall & Bolton were after Cup games but Rotherham was not, it was actually after an international break.
I don’t think the Oldham cup game can be used as an excuse for the Millwall defeat as we didn’t put a full strength team out at Oldham, we just defended poorly for the first 20 minutes (set pieces were our downfall as usual).
@Jourdan I don’t understand the comment of ONLY a cup game in August. Do you only care about cup games if we’re in the semi-finals or something?
Does that also mean we shouldn’t care about Saturday’s game as it’s only August too?
Persinally I want us to win every game whatever competition it’s in.

Not overly bothered myself but what is this about risk?
We can't risk Lawrence? He could also get injured 2 minutes into the game on Saturday or in training. Footballers should be just playing football and by Lawrence's recent performances, he needs a bit of practice.
Risking Keogh? The man is a machine, he cannot get injured.

Who can say how the Preston game would have ended with Bogle? But at least I left Accrington that day satisfied that we picked a strong team and actually tried to go out and win.
We have little to no chance of winning the Championship at the end of it. Does that mean we shouldn't try? Absolutely not, that would be absurd. Winning breeds winning. I think we should play to win every game, I don't care if that's viewed as naieve, but if you don't give a poo about a local rivalry, why are you even in football?
I would have started Marriott and I wouldn't have started 2 holding mids. But Lampard believed that was the strongest team to start with. You aren't telling me Cocu thought the 11 tonight was the strongest he could have picked. I'm not having it.
