In place of who though? To finish in the top 2 we’d have needed 22 more points at least, that’s a big, big swing for another manager to achieve. And it was with a squad assembled by somebody else. You’ve said before “I hate this team”, so clearly the players didn’t have what it took any way?
I’m not Warne’s number 1 fan, I’m not sold that he is the right long term option for us and I’d have been very happy to see him sacked after Stevenage away. But he’s gone on to make us dogged, resilient and efficient.
I can accept people may dislike his playing style or his personality, whatever, but I can’t see how anybody could argue that he’s not done an excellent job - providing we finish the job - given the circumstances.
He’s taken a side who was pieced together under restrictions by a different manager, straight out of administration, and built an ethos and an atmosphere that a lot have clearly bought into. I really don’t think it matters how big a side we are or how many fans we have, to be in this position 20 months after nearly ceasing to exist is a wonderful achievement.
Whether he finishes next season as our manager or not will remain to be seen, but he absolutely deserves the opportunity to take us into the Championship.

    Morning all
Been a while since anything like this has been attempted and with a sell out expected its now time to turn it on and do our part.
Its been on the socials so spreading the word on here.
So bring your scarves and your flags. Lets make it a sea of black and white come Saturday. There will be some new flags being surfed in the South Stand and the plan is to get some of the bigger flags on poles in there as well.
Really is over to us now to make a difference so voices required from all stands as well in what is a huge game.

I have no doubts that Clowes and Warne are aligned and enjoy a good working relationship, but based on how frustrated the fans are with Warne on the whole that I do wonder whether there would be a significant commercial drop-off from fans IF we are to go into League One next year with Warne as manager. As soon as it's confirmed we aren't going up, I already know the reaction on here is going to be heavy on the Warne out content.
The thought of going into another League One season with Warne in the dugout does very little for me, especially ahead of such a significant rebuild. I would suggest it's just common sense to get someone in with a fresh mindset, personally. This season, despite the relative success, hasn't been enjoyable for a lot of people. The atmosphere around the club just isn't great.

I’d put him back in net personally. Seems more commanding in the area and also partial to a worldie save. Also want that back 5 unit of Joe Nyambe Nelson Cash and Fozzy to play again as they were solid as a rock at the start of this run.

So everyone clapping, lots singing, with a finale of a loud “Derby!” isn’t building the atmosphere just seconds from kick off?
How would listening to music get the crowd engaging en mass anymore than this does?

Unless it’s less noise you want while you check your bets online? 😂

It's about finding balance. You can just about manage to carry the likes of Hourihane when he's the only one you're having to carry. With Korey Smith injured, the midfield has worked much better than it had done with both Smith and Hourihane in it. We still do need a bit more pace though, we would be in serious trouble if NML got injured.

You would get a better crowd feeling if we had academy players on than a supposed team of pensioners who have had promotions walking around a pitch not giving a damn. I’ve never been so angry at an away game for stevenages third goal at the half arsed attempts to put in a tackle close down play etc. give me a mixture of academy and first team players that lose that game but at least put a shift in and look to have an identity about there play.

We were not relegated due to performances we were relegated due to points deductions so get the whole context out please. Even though we were relegated I sure as hell preferred that season than this one

How many people are saying "we're a shoe in for promotion"? Very few.
There are two main streams of displeasure.
    1. Style of play often resulting in an inability to pass the ball to a team mate
    2. League position being some way off challenging for automatic promotion. We're only 11 games in, but already 9 points off 2nd spot. Many would argue this isn't challenging for automatics.
One man is ultimately responsible for the first topic. He's the one who coaches the team and instructs them how to play on matchday. That criticism is therefore perfectly valid if those supporters do not enjoy the football on display.
When comparing a side to determine if they're overperforming or underperforming, budget vs league position is one of the main metrics. When looking at historic wage expenditure of clubs in this division, rumoured fees paid for players in the summer, etc.. it's very obvious that we have a 'top 3' budget. Since we're currently 9th in the table (7th on ppg), we're underperforming. People may disagree over the reason, but it still ultimately falls back on Warne.
    - Some say Warne isn't getting the most out of this squad due to tactics, player selection, etc... = Warne at fault
    - You say the players aren't good enough. Therefore, either of the following are the reason:
          - The recruitment team, which Warne helped to assemble, isn't identifying good enough players
          - Warne didn't choose the right players in the summer window
          - Warne couldn't convince the right players to join

You logic, based on the club's financial resources (considering wages and transfer fees) are top 3, yet our squad player ability is "average". You're therefore saying Warne is a very good coach, since he gets more out of the players than their ability deserves, but the club's recruitment (which includes Warne) is abysmal.

Anyone with a passing interest in F1 will know that this is not going to end well for Reading.
Storey is a notorious attention seeker having put bids in for all sorts of nonsense. His company 'Rich Energy', a product I've never seen on a shelf anywhere, sponsored the Haas F1 team but it all went belly up mid-season leaving Haas in some trouble without the sponsorship money they had accounted for. Storey also famously got ripped to bits by a judge in a copyright case, essentially being branded dishonest.
Any money this guy puts forward for Reading will likely not be his money because he doesn't appear to have any significant wealth, and he seems unwilling to reveal who would be putting the money in.
This is a classic case of someone who should get filtered out by the fit and proper person test, but the EFL will probably roll out the red carpet to him.
Reading are hardly in a good place right now, but this would be out of the frying pan and into an Olympic pool sized deep fat fryer.

The 14/15 season was before MM decided to through money at promotion. He saw injuries to the squad stop us earning promotion in 14/15, so tried to prevent that happening again.
Let's look at why we did so bad at the end of that season...
    Defence
Buxton missed the final 11 games of the season leaving just Shotton (also covering RB) and Albentosa as options. Forsyth had to cover CB for the one game too.
Whitbread was already out injured since October, was rushed back into the side in April due to our injury crisis, played only 1 full games before picking up another injury 27 minutes into his 2nd start
Christie was out for the final 6 games. Due to Shotton also being injured at the time, Keogh filled in at RB for 2 games and Albentosa 1 until Shotton was rushed back in to the side.
    Midfield
Thorne was injured in pre-season, and was only fit enough to play 29 minutes in the first team during this 12 game spell before returning to the treatment table.
Mascerall, his replacement, picked up an injury for the final 9 games.
Eustace, cover for both, picked up a career ending injury in the middle of January
Despite Hanson playing there for a couple of games, we struggled to find the right balance, even playing Dawkins and Warnock in midfield.
    Forward
Martin was only fit enough to start 1 of the final 16 games, playing a total of 220 minutes during that spell.
Bent, our backup for Martin, was injured for the first 4 games of your 12 game run and for the penultimate game of the season.

Where have I stated I believe Warne is lying to us? I actually believe he's telling the truth - he believes the U21s aren't good enough for the first team.
What I disagree on is his judgement on their ability and most importantly, how they should be introduced to the first team.
Warne cited Chesterfield as a reason to to use Robinson in the first team. A side who were 3rd, behind a side curenelty top of L2 and another who are in the Playoffs. They would give most L1 sides a tough game.
Warne has referred to 'trust' a few times. What he actually means by this is he only wants to sue players who are st least top half L1 quality (in his opinion), and won't trust them if they are below that level. He needs to trust the player not to make a mistake which could cost the team points (and Warne's job)
To develop players, a manager needs to trust his players. They need to have faith in the process, where youngsters will make mistakes, but improve as a result.
The academy was buzzing when Lampard was manager. He showed a serious interest in the youngsters, watched a lot of the games, knew their names, drafted a high number of them into training and gave them minutes on the pitch. He even trusted Bird to make his first league start in an important gane against Villa and called Knight up to the squad for the Playoffs.
Warne couldn't even give the correct score or name the hattrick scorer from the game he watched just a few hours earlier. You trust his judgement on if a player should or shouldn't be given a few minutes of action in the first team?

Completely agree on impact on the team.....the thing that might enable Sarg to retain his seat is the two upcoming races in the US. If Ric is back at the next race I hope Williams are asking whether Lawson is available.

Completely agree on Stroll, he did enough in the lower formula to justify his spot and has generally been credible in F1. When you consider ex drivers looking to come back in and who is available in F2 there are very few you could argue have a strong case of being in F1 above Stroll. F2 is a bit like our academy atm, restocking with talent after all the best ones moved away!

When the club was against the wall and we had a siege mentality it was less about the football and more about solidarity, making a point. Us against the world.
Now things have calmed down off the pitch the fans need to see something on the pitch to get behind. The style of football is currently absolutely dreadful and it saps the enthusiasm from the crowd. It's not hard to get Pride Park going, but Warne and this team are finding a way to make it hard.

All the F1 pundits are buying into it being just Singapore and expecting the RB19 to be back to itself at Suzuka.
I still pray to the racing gods to smite the Marko/Horner/Verstappen triad, but it may be we have to go back to hoping the other teams catch up next season.

It'll be interesting to see if RB's problems are circuit specific or whether they continue for the rest of the season. If they do continue, it will be similar situation to when Ferrari were caught out a few years back.

I'll write something more serious than taking the mickey out of manager.
I don't enjoy Warne football. It's not just the style of football I have an issue with, I think it's the underlying problem of the most important aspect of any manager, is he getting the maximum out of his squad. And the simple answer is no. A big wage budget, as good of a backing as he will receive from our owner despite the circumstances with limits from the EFL, fantastic training facilities. He has no excuses in my view.
Maybe it is an ego problem on my part, watching teams with significantly less resources than ourselves pass the football better and making our players run like headless chickens to regain possession, particularly at home, really grinds my teeth. I don't feel like Pride Park is a fortress under Warne. Strangely I don't feel confident like I used to. Surrendering possession at home does not give me reassurance that we are in control of matches, we are currently waiting on a massive error in the opponent's half or a 1 in 30 cross to find the back of the net. It is very basic, not much thought process and currently is giving us mixed results. Unfortunately Warne way is not for me although I do hope he has a lightbulb moment and conjures an attractive counter attacking style.
