Well I shouldn’t have been at the game yesterday, instead should be sunning myself on the Queensland Sunshine Coast, flight cancelled couldn’t get another one until a week later so losing a whole week of holiday - never fly Lufthansa!! f****** charlatans!!
However a bonus of not going was it meant I could freeze my arse off watching the mighty rams v Forest green.  In the last half hour the rams did their best to warm us up with relentless sustained waves of attacks and chances, how we didn’t score more I don’t know. Rest of the game was patchy but NMLs goal was good, and I agree with others who say McGoldrick’s goal is the best since Morrison last season, it was a thing of beauty and to all those that think Warne is anti-football that second goal really pleased him. In fact speaking of Warneball, hardly recall us going long all game, when we did play well it was fast paced intricate attacking play.

However for long periods we went through the motions and played slow. We got the job done but I was pleased to hear Warne say he wasn’t happy and he’s demanding more from the players.
Knight is vital but due to contract situation I’m worried he will be on his way. Bird is playing well, Sibley was excellent yesterday along with McGoldrick. If we can get a right back in, move Smith into midfield I think that will transform us, I’d have Smith sitting with Bird and Knight. Conor for me should drop out.

At Christmas we’re in the playoffs, we’re looking harder to beat, we’re improving with the potential to improve the squad in January. Based on what I’ve seen this season, I’d be stunned if we don’t make the playoffs. I also wouldn’t rule out top 2 if we can keep some of our key players fit.

Think it’s hard to say who is the greatest ever because each era is different. You can I think name the best players of each era/generation.
    My view
    58-70 - Pele
    70s - Cruyff
    80-92 - Maradona
    96-06 - Zidane
    06-22 - Messi
I think Messi is definitely the greatest of this generation, he has more natural ability than Ronaldo, he’s played a leading role in taking Argentina (not the best squad) to 2 World Cup finals, including a World Cup win, along with winning the Copa America, he’s won everything in the game. He’s special. Ronaldo has been sensational but i think has had to work harder to get himself to that level and I think Messi’s football intelligence is on another level to Ronaldo.
It was fitting that Messi won this today playing a starring role and the young pretender Mbappe scored a hat trick to get the golden boot - he’s the next guy who will probably be the greatest of his generation

Germany had 3 tournaments under Lowe (08, 10 and 12) where they had near misses before finally winning one.
Southgate has had 3 tournaments too and I see improvement in each one.

While I’m gutted I feel really positive about the future for England. The potential of this team is frightening. We got to a Semi in 2018 when we weren’t good enough, the draw helped us but amazing turnaround from 2016. Big squad turnover for Euros, lost on penalties in the final, I don’t think we were ready to win, we froze when we needed to be assertive (manager included).  Last night against a good team, we did most things right but didn’t have the luck which you also need. In losing that game it proved to me what I knew that we’re ready to win a major tournament.

Before we’d get to a semi then wouldn’t even get to the QF for another 10-12 years. We will be in the running in Euro 24, in US, Canada, Mex in 2026, and also a decent chance in Euro 28 and WC 2030. Id back us to win at least one of those tournaments.

Southgate should stay as long as he feels he still has the energy for it of course.
I think this team is special. We may not have the silverware to prove it but I honestly do believe it is coming.
We have come so far as a nation under Southgate. From 2016 to now is honestly night and day. I have seen England evolve over his tenure from tournament to tournament. We are now at a point where we consistently make it to the latter stages of tournaments and tonight proved we can go toe to toe with the best in the world.
Bringing a supposedly 'world class coach to get it over the line' sounds all good but what's to guarantee they can get us into this position in the first place. We have been here before with England managers
Don't try and fix something that isn't broken. We are so close.

I think that is the best we’ve played against a top national side for as long as I can remember.
We can be really proud of that performance.
We caused France all kinds of problems and pushed them.
That game could have easily gone all the way to a penalty shoot out as there was so little between the teams.
    Such fine margins.

Both of their goals came out of nowhere. It wasn’t sustained pressure of anything. And that first goal was one of those where he could try that again another 50 times and he wouldn’t score.
Giroud had a decent chance before he scored admittedly. But generally, that second half was as dominant as I’ve ever seen England against a top team.
Some people hate stats. But we had 58% possession, double the shots on goal and double the corners.
That wasn’t a usual England performance. Go back over the years against the likes of Brazil, Portugal, Germany (2010) and Italy and we were on the ropes most of the game. Not this time.
Good thing is players like Bellingham, Rice, Saka and Foden will only get better. I think only Henderson and Walker are the two who will be playing their last World Cup. The rest will still be top players in 2026.

Appalling defending from Cashin Roberts and Davies for the goal.  A point it’s more than we deserve. Really poor from us today not helped by yet more abysmal refereeing. Should’ve played for another 3 or 4 minutes the clown.
Take the point and move on but really frustrated and angry tonight. England better f****** win.
