I read a couple of headlines from Derbyshire Live this morning:
"Nigel Clough wades in on Derby County struggles ahead of Crunch Clash"
"David Clowes sent Derby County transfer message by 'uber-paranoid' Paul Warne"
These are just sensationalist headlines for what purpose? Nigel Clough certainly didn't "wade" in and I am sure Paul Warne speaks with David Clowes on an almost daily basis and he is fully aware of Derby's requirements in the transfer window.
Although in my 70s, I do try to keep up with technology as far as I can. I can't help but think that we are starting to live in a pretty toxic society, where many people want to voice their opinions about all sorts of topics and people on the Social Media. I have no problem with that per se, provided the opinions are based on fact or reasonable assumptions. I have no time for people who just seek sensationalism, winding people up or make hurtful, personal comments about others. I am happy for criticism of actual behaviour but not personal character assassination. Just imagine how you would feel if it was you who was the subject of these comments. You don't know the effect such comments can have on people -suicide, mental health issues or maybe just want a transfer away!
This Forum has voiced a few of those after the first couple of games of the season. There should be criticism of the team's and  individual's performances but please let's avoid personal, sensitive comments especially when these cannot be backed up with hard facts.
"Kane Wilson couldn't cross a road"  "scariest thing is we have bought two central defender who can't play football" "I guarantee Waghorn would have missed Wigan's first goal" "can stick his f****** why all up his arse" "Bird is more sparrow than golden eagle. An exhibition player not willing to break sweat. I'll drive him to Hull myself" "We've got a pub team manager in charge of a jugganaught" "Bradley has the mobility of a superglued traffic cone"
These were from just 2 posts on the Forum.
I'm not a prude but can we just think about what we are writing about and to other individuals. Hopefully, we all want all our players and staff to bring success to the Club - so lets show our support.

    https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/jeff-stelling-issues-verdict-on-paul-warnes-derby-county-future-after-play-off-disappointment/
Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling has urged Derby County to stick with Paul Warne after missing out on the League One play-offs.
From my own point of view, he got Rotherham fc, promoted on several occasions and on a very low budget.
Our owner spent a lot on buying the club out of a potential bankruptcy.
Then he brought in a league one promotion specialist, gave him a 4 year contract worth several million. The owner trust Warne.
Warne inherited a team thar weren't his choice, littles changed since thar time. He's been constricted by not having a transfer budget.
In the summer we almost didn't meet the league requirements to for a team, we had to bring in a lot of players as free agents, just to survive.
We are rebuilding, as the old saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day.
Our squad requires an overhaul and its difficult to do on just free agents.
Warne wants to bring in better players than we have now, but he's not allowed to spend money doing that.
Doesn't matter that when I watched games in the 1970s, 80s etc we faced different struggles. We are where we are.
Doesn't matter that we are punished by the efl, that it might appear unjust.
What matters is that there's a job to be done in rebuilding the team. There's a job to be done in rebuilding the club's reputation.
I've previously listed free agents that are available and might play for us at this level, the general response seemed to be 1% are players we might want to sign. A very narrow field, good job we have a new head of recruitment to help with the rebuild.

I have not commented on  this forum in years as I have not really had the need but recently I have started to have serious concerns about certain aspects of Warne’s management that he needs to work on , let alone the players.
Firstly it has been quite obvious that Curtis’ legs have gone. Much as I love the guy it was sad to see him look totally lost,  I know that PW said they had a bad day at the training office but it must be obvious that CD is struggling. it must be so easy to see in training, so why play him?
Tactically it could have been altered within the first 15 by bringing Roberts on. Fossie also looks slow on the left and it then exposed Cashin, who then started to wobble as he was not sure who was around him. A good manager doesn’t soldier on, he affects changes. Too much dwelling and no incisiveness. If I and those all around me can see the issue, then why can’t the paid professionals?
Because he didn’t make immediate changes the result was destabilising team morale by changing two players two minutes before half time, that were symptoms of the issue but not the cause.
My major concern is that we underestimate the opposition, as most of the lesser teams are physically aggressive, crunch up the mid-field and do a press on the back four, although the press was not massively evident yesterday. We are predictable and easy to play, opponents stop our game and then we fall into midfield head tennis and channel balls invariably going nowhere. We need to learn how to counter this if we are to progress but i do not see much evidence of this on the field. PW must work on this, along with the development of further strategic planning in the event that a team does A, then changes to plan B and so on; which has been evident from the opposition in many recent games.

One thing that is clearly evident from this league, is that there is a good set of opposition coaches that use quite a lot of guile and gamesmanship to get results. Just running faster is not the answer, we need to be developing other dimensions to our play and taking note of what to expect.

Maybe the squad now thinks the same. It would explain today's lack of performance.
If the Warne love-in has ended and there's just a void of disbelief "in the building", we would be in trouble.

What I also really like about PW is the fact that recruiting players appears to be going through him.
Plenty of clubs adopt this policy where a director of football or someone looks and recruits whereas the comments from Warne strongly indicate he has the choice and thats how it should be.
He commented on the recent CB who was offered and has also mentioned the calibre of player and personality he desires at the club
I like this approach , not someone else buying players with good stats but the Manager looking at a players personality and playing attributes and judging if he would fit in, also saying that money will not be spent if it is not a player who will fit in. and make us better.
A lot of clubs don't use this approach but I for one think this is the way to go.

Absolutely true. Many of us were were willing to wait and see and many of us were optimistic, quietly or otherwise.
But the fact that even the manager caught wind of the mood of the fanbase perhaps shows that the impact of our words and our thoughts is more significant than we realise.

When the manager himself acknowledges that at least half of the fanbase didn’t want him and his team, that tells you all you need to know.
We were incredibly dismissive of Warne and unfairly so. A pound shop Rowett, some said. The next Jewell, some said. The next Pearson, some said. Taking a leaf out of the Mel Morris playbook, some said.
It was so bad that some respected posters have gone into complete hiding knowing they well and truly overreacted to his appointment.
Doing the bounce when we get promoted? If I were Warne, I would be doing laps of the pitch cupping my ears. It’d be what we deserve.
He’s doing a cracking job and it’s a shame it’s taken us going 14 games unbeaten for him and his team to get some credit.

Also Roy I think Paul Warne is brilliant …a great personality and character and although some including myself worried that it would be hoofball it really isn’t and I love how he’s galvanised us and made us hard to beat
The fitness levels seem higher and I really like the bloke and although some don’t like his ways/ methods and coming across as a cheeky chappy type I love it and am guessing the players do too as they are working there socks off every game
There will be bumps in the road and we will see who’s quick to jump on Warne but I won’t be one of them as I think we have a real gem

As a Vale fan I was gutted after the match but the consensus among our fans was that the best team won. Thought we edged a tetchy first half but after scoring we sat back and invited you on and you duly obliged. Last 20 minutes you looked like a top of the table side. That was the best our goalie has played all season! Unfortunately both our main strikers(Ellison and Wilson)! are out injured so we were VERY limited up front. As for the away following, I thought you lot were superb. Sang loudly all through the match apart from, understandably, the 10 mins after we scored. I've supported Vale since 1969 and think overall that was THE best overall away backing I've heard in that time. You should be proud. That stand you were in has excellent acoustics and will be our home end next season with away fans being housed in the stand opposite you last night. As for on the pitch I'd say, though you only really started playing late on, you were the second best team I've seen at Vale Park this season, with Ipshit being clearly the best. Hope you get promoted with Sjoke City exchanging places with you! Again, great effort by your support last night! Our pitch is s*** but looked like Wembley compared to the old Baseball Ground mud heap of the 70s. Didn't seem to hinder Kevin Hector, Roger Davies or Alan Hinton? too much though.

As the Buddha never actually said, but probably wished he had, happiness is the journey, not the destination.
We're on a journey with the immediate destination being the Championship, and I say, let's get ducking carried away and enjoy the journey. Then if we don't quite make the destination at least we had fun trying. to get there.

Irrespective of whether we catch the top 2 or not (unlikely in my opinion but stranger things have happened), isn't this just quite enjoyable?
We're on an unbeaten run, conceding few goals and having some good days out as fans. Fourth in the league, competitive, good morale, smiles on faces. What's not to like?
This is the reason I wasn't fussed about being relegated to L1. There was always the chance that we might have a good time in this division. And besides, the way I see it we have two promotions to aim for. Compare this to when we were in the Championship, desperate for promotion to the supposed promised land and filled with bitterness, bickering and dissatisfaction.
In short, these are good days. Enjoy them because that's what follwing a team is all about.

I always back every manager when they’re in the door and am usually one of the last to turn. My immediate reaction to the appointment with outrage. Why have we not given the job to Liam who is doing a decent job and deserves our backing for sticking with us through last season’s chaos, and replace him with a hoof ball merchant who has only managed a small club and might get us out of this league but doesn’t have the credentials to make us competitive in the championship. I was in this space probably for a couple of days but I actually did my research and saw he’s a good guy who will manage with integrity and embody all the values of David Clowes, he will stop at nothing to do his best for the club, and furthermore he’s actually a good tactician and lives/breathes the game, maybe his style at Rotherham was borne out of making the best of the resources he had.
Fast forward and it’s safe to say I’m delighted Warne is at our club and more than a lot of managers I really want him to do well, and the coaching staff also. They seem really good people and this squad of players seem a really good bunch also.
A major positive of the s**** we’ve been through is it’s brought the club and the players closer to the fans again like the old days. They’re all relatable, there is no chance they will be taking flights to Blackpool. The higher up the pyramid you go the more out of touch the players and club are and you may reach mid table mediocrity in the premier league - but what then. Sure I want us to be back in the championship at the earliest opportunity and be competitive in that league as a minimum, and I want us to reach the premier league but what a ride it would be if we got there and if we did make it, we would certainly appreciate it more than we we wouldve done had we beat Villa. Hopefully the club can do it and keep the spirit and foundations of now

And I’ve met a few frogs in my current line of work, moving them along, so I don’t accidentally kill them with my mower, and to be fair, not one of them have been crazy. Maybe I need to collect them and put them in a box to see if they go crazy, but probably not.
