I would settle for league 2, rather than just read about Derby County in the history books.

You don't think someone can be critical of overspending and then being critical of managers and players for being rubbish?
I'm sorry but that's patently absurd. There is not only the 2 extremes available. You can live within your means and aim for better. See Tom Glick for details.

But Angie, I think this misses the point. The fans will *always* want money spending. The owner is the one in charge and responsible for ignoring the whims of the fans and making the best decision for the club.

He has risked the livelihoods of lots innocent employees rather than standing up and meeting the obligations he subjected himself to as custodian of our club.
I have sympathy with him to an extent but when a businessman, with a reported net wealth of £500m, leaves people on minimum wage in the lurch, its hard to shed too many tears.

All the damage was done in the two weeks we signed about £20m of players on long contracts that we then sold for next to nothing. Everything after that has been accounting aimed at avoiding the impact of those decisions. If Blackman had gone on to be a twenty goal a season striker nobody here would have a bad word to say. I'd argue the club could be forgiven for getting one signing wrong but the fact that all five, or six, didn't work or shows either extreme bad luck or some pretty appalling scouting and governance.

One of the most important aspects of leadership is to do things because they are right, not because others want you to do them.

Lets not forget, we are in administration because Mel stopped paying the bills. No other reason. His public explanation is he did that because he can't be rid of the club until he's stopped paying bills because no one will buy it in it's current state.
Whatever the reasons, the blame all goes to Mel in the end.
Now, Mel Morris is still a rich man. The bills did not stop being paid because Mel is insovlvant.
If the entry into adminsitration is the only way to get new ownership in, it really does not say a lot for your stewardship does it.

His major duck ups were his transfer policy, non playing staff recruitment and the ludicrous wages we paid. Covid made it worse, but it didnt cause the problem. We had to sell the stadium before covid came along. Covid is completely irrelevant for me when discussing Mels poor stewardship of the club. Its just an excuse and not a very good one.

I truly believe both Lampard and Rooney were great appointments , for commercial reasons (and why not both are in the top echelons of UK football ) but mostly for their character,  drive and ability. Wtf is wrong recruiting on that basis . I've seen many charlatan managers down the 50 years of support and rather these guys than many of the previous incumbents or any that are currently available .
Stick with Rooney if he sticks with us

I’m very similar, but his communication like his judgement on backing managers in the transfer market has been poor.
Forget the last hour and look at how we arrived at where we are at, most of the time with the fans in the dark.
Ed’s question about seeking the limelight was skirted around, on the basis certain managers bought more profile; not doubting that Lampard and Rooney have commercial advantages but he never came across as genuine in his answer to that, Mel enjoyed the limelight when things were positive in my opinion but has hidden with our backs against the wall.
He may end up losing a lot of money, but running football clubs is for the most part vanity projects, very few make money out of it. It’s the ordinary workforce my sadness is for, Mel’s acknowledgement of their plight was painfully extracted in that interview.
Bar what he did for the academy, I think his legacy is horrendous, to put us in a perilously dire state should a buyer not be found soon.

Incredible listening, he’s just told Ed he feels for the staff, but didn’t have a long term solution, other than he wants to find a buyer.
Ed then asking a difficult questions about why he’s not communicating. He’s hiding behind non disclosure about his P.R
Then blaming leaks form other side, as to why things emerge. He could easily straighten the record without breaching non disclosure. Sorry it all sounds very shallow.
Bit like his apologies towards the end.

There’s a lot of talk, but he’s not really saying anything.
We know the financial model is broken. And he’s claiming he knows that too. Surely that’s all the more reason to run the club prudently, rather than plough ahead and play the parachute payments game without any parachute payments.

Don’t like the sound of that, he’s just admitted we are in breach of 17/18 accounts by the EFL interpretation. The administrators will end up having to acquiesce to this for us to move forward.

It's a half hour interview, padded out by music between segments.
First song is 'It wasn't Me' by Shaggy, followed by 'Panic' by The Smith's, 'All these things that I have done' by The Killers, 'Moneys too tight to Mention' by The Valentine Brothers' and finishing with the Stones 'All over now'.
    Probably.

    This.
He made mistakes learning on the job last year, he might make a few more, but considering the bum hand he’s been dealt, he’s showing his leadership and fighting characteristics in one. He doesn’t flap, he’s not moaning, just getting on with the job.
What is clear, the players believe in him and are not just playing with pride, they’re actually implementing his tactics remarkably well, given the threadbare nature of our squad. For all Rooney has done wrong, lacking maturity at times, he’s actually proving a good mentor to our youngsters and the whole team are responding to his tactics.
Going to be a long season, but Rooney comes across with far more sincerity, than anything we’ve heard from the boardroom in a long while. His comments on the staff losing jobs for me were both heartfelt and genuine.
Whatever happens, his stock is rising amongst Derby fans and rightfully so. Keep up the good work Wayne 🐏
We as fans should believe in him.

Couldnt find original thread but perhaps mods can merge. Terrible night but I have been heartened by the huge number of supportive messages under clubs posts and elsewhere from fans of other clubs tonight. Not for the board etc but towards us as fans and Derby as a football club separate to its ownership. Thanks to those genuine football fans
