In Lampard’s defence he tried sticking Mount on Phillips.
To stop them it had to be as drastic a change as abondoned our shape and matching them man for man or trying to soak up pressure then hit them on the break.
I think as well that if we are to persist with a fluid midfield Wisdom needs to sit back to make a three at the back. A bit like Sarri’s Napoli in which, with Jorginho constantly backing up play, Hysaj would stay back.

I thought Leeds were very good. They played at a high tempo throughout. Broke on us quickly. They were very direct. It was impressive. Saiz is quality. They have some typical Leeds scumbags like berardi and alioski which means they can scrap too.
i thought we matched them for an hour even though there were some flaws in our pressing, and we were careless in possession at times. It was a tremendous game for a while. 100mph. End to end. ledley just couldn't keep up with the sheer physical intensity of  it but i doubt whether huddlestone would have been much better. Their third goal was the killer. No doubt we could have defended better for all the goals. The fourth exposed Max Lowe who seems not to have a natural defenders instinct for spotting danger.
But there were some positives too.
Tomori was a bit of a revelation at centre back. Much better than Pearce. Josefzoon showed some trickery. Despite the comments from others i thought waghorn improved us and played quite well. Unfortunately we were too spread out to link effectively across midfield. If anything this game exposed us as being slightly weak in central midfield. Mount and wilson seemed to fade.
We won't meet another Leeds. Keep calm.

Agree with the Thread Creator but not because of money so much.
The problem which Rowett did in fairness identify was that you cant have a huge squad and expect great comraderie. Unfortunately he brought in more older players we’d never be able to budge and his outs were heavily loans. Right idea but failed in player selection and tactics.
This squad has become huge. It’s fine when we win and keep winning ... but if we lose a few on the bounce then you know that players will be chopped in and out the matchday squad and if we don’t then reverse the results everyone will be disgruntled. Lots of players won’t be playing football and will be blaming selections and the players dropped could easily lose faith too.
Squad size is truly very important to our success. Many players need moving out pronto.

For no other reason that they have same amount of vowels and consonants in both their Christian and Surnames.

Can't believe we still have vydra, 11m for him is an absolute steal in the current market. Why is he still here, wage demands, preferred locations??  I am more than happy to keep him.

Its depressing to see a perfectly reasonable question from the OP being shot down in such a condescending way. FFP & the future financial situation at the club is a valid discussion point.
Our transfer policy this summer seems to be at odds with what we thought was the likely approach this year. Rowett (apparently) left because of a reduced budget but here we are having spent over £10m (in transfer fees and loan fees) if the Waghorn deal goes through. The brief for this year seemed to be building a squad & bringing through youth - what we seem to be doing instead is going on another spending spree when the squad was already bloated to begin with. How can a stated intention to reduce the wage bill be reconciled with that? Worryingly, we've bought Marriott & Jozefzoon (£5.5m combined before add-ons?) but I don't see either of them walking into the team.
The other issue relates to the size of the squad & the potential for unused players to feel so far from the first team that it creates a bad atmosphere. At least 10-15 decent players will be missing out every week - that can't be healthy no matter how good a man manager Lampard is. And that doesn't even take into account of our young players hoping to breakthrough.
Big caveat here is that players may well be leaving between now & Thursday but we're leaving it very late. Is this a last ditch effort to spend our way to the top division? I suspect we'll know for sure if we don't see a number of departures before the weekend.

Looks like you’re relatively new here, welcome by the way, I was pulling Ninos’s leg, to say he’s not a fan would be an understatement, to say he hasn’t got the time of day for Martin might be a little closer. 👍

I said the same at the Southampton game - we will leak goals because of it but it’s part of the package this season so I won’t be going potty when it happens but looking at the bright side we did it twice at Reading and somehow won - Huddlestone playing would reduce the amount of blind panic immeasurable

I share some of @Ninos‘s concerns. Not sure we have the personnel at the back to play the way Lampard wants yet. Especially in Davies. He shone in that Rowett team but was asked to do a totally different job.
Keogh is a decent ball-player, despite his rather freak-show performance on Friday. Will be interesting to see how this all unfolds, but if I were Frank, I’d be trying to bring in someone like Souttar over say Joe Bryan.

Carson - great shot stopper but very poor distributor of the ball and kinda scary with his feet
Keogh - big heart great header fun runs but he’s a one footed player whose passing around the back is strained at best
Davies - overall excellent leader and defender but prone to losing the ball and not a distributor either
Lowes the business as playmaking wing back, wisdom not so sure ...
Should we be concerned with Lampard wanting us to play high tempo out if the back ? Move Huddlestone into the centre half role ? Is this an accident waiting to happen ? Or should we not be worried?

Not true of a few managers. Mourinho seems to field his strongest lineup regardless of opposition whereas we deliberately try to lose if we progress. @Angry Ram is right for the most part but we tend to be on runs in the league then the manager outsmarts himself and rests key players for a big cup match then we collapse in the league too.

Who cares. They’re both poor at their professions.
Bent tells us what we had all already guessed and Clement tells us what we already saw. Bentys inability to stay onside was utterly maddening and symptomatic of his annoying, laid back playing style. Big time underperformer.

They both scored zero goals last year but Zanzala never got a game. Any striker is better than Martin. Let’s just hope that his lack of opportunities- shelved in favour of has been underperformers - isn’t repeated this season. So far looks like the lowes Bennetts and Thomases will be given chances. Zanzala was a different type of striker - a battering ram with a good touch who could finish  - not too sure he’d fit lampards preferences but should have been afforded an opportunity
